Do Tell: How Would You Define Your Type?

When we're on the dating scene, finding ourselves attracted to a certain type of guy is very typical and actually quite hard to avoid. Though we always hope that we’re attracted to the right type for us, the truth of the matter is, sometimes we go for the type that’s just all wrong. But of course, it all depends on the girl. So ladies, good or bad, do tell: How would you define your type?

Do not have a type.

The guys I've found myself attracted to all have some similar traits: intelligence (this is ridiculously important to me), wit, muscular, the ability to hold a conversation with me for a long period of time, and kindness. The majority of them are a little rough around the edges and don't necessarily get along with everyone. I like guys who are soft underneath their "tough and rough" exterior.

For me, all the my past loves had one thing in common: Educated. I didn't realize that until now. Now that I think about it, education in a man is important to me. Also, through my experience with my husband, I've grown to appreciate men who can think subjectively and objectively, and know the difference. It's something I learned to do from my husband, and sometimes, I think I'm better at it than he is. :)

Oh, and I hate guys that know everything about cars, but can't afford to buy them. I've dated guys with the personality traits I hate, so I know from experience that if a guy wants to rattle off facts about the new BMW or Aston Martin, he better be able to afford one, even if he chooses not to buy one!

Oh, and no mama's boys or obsessive personalities (sports, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, instruments, etc.)! My current boyfriend hates sports like me, so that's a plus! We respect it, but we aren't interested in watching people play it or going out every weekend to play it, either. I don't like guys that play instruments (they spend too much time practicing) or are dependent on friends for their life. So, guys in bands are turn-offs!

Blonde hair and blue eyes, nice teeth, can't be chubby (no double-chins, big guts, big thighs or fat ass), can't have a toucan-nose, can't be metrosexual or even enjoy shopping for clothes/accessories, can't have BO, can't have craters on their face, can't be dumb, can't have lots of female friends or exes, and CAN'T be a frat guy/partier, or do drugs. Traits I look for: sweet, honest, intelligent (good with words, facts and technology), loyal, funny (usually in a dorky way, not in a stand-up comedian way), cuddly, soft hair/skin and ambitious/determined with some money (not trust-fund rich, but enough to afford a dinner and/or a movie). Also, preferably interested in being a scientist or an engineer. I just listed my current boyfriend's traits because he's my first serious one, and he's pretty damn good to me!

Also they have a sense of humor, sort-of laidback yet they work hard at their job or sport.

The guys I like almost always have brunnette hair & blue/green eyes; usually into sports too.

I go for intelligent guys who are confident. VERY confident. I think I must be operating under the assumption that if he doesn't love himself, I'm not going to find anything worthwhile about him either. I like them skating just on the edge of narcissism. It's fun when men have the self-faith and brains to pull off ridiculous things that most people won't even attempt, but they can't be complete jerks about it.

I typically go for clean-cut, athletic, funny, charismatic, well-liked "nice guys."

I don't think I necessarily have a type physically. As long as they take care of themselves and I'm attracted to them, hair color, eye color, etc. doesn't really matter to me. But personality-wise...that is another story all together. I need to be with a guy who's compassionate, outgoing, friendly, intelligent, trustworthy, and who has a good sense of humor. I like a man with good manners and one who's chivalrous. I never cared for "shy" guys who just want to sit at home all the time, and when you DO go out places, they just sit in the corner and don't talk to anyone. I've dated a couple of guys like that and it drove me NUTS. I also NEED to be able to have intelligent conversations with a guy...if he never has anything interesting to say, I'm all set.

looking at past boyfriends, i don't seem to have a type either. asian, white, moroccan, muscular, skinny, overweight, bad teeth, good teeth, short, tall, older, younger, redhead, blond, black hair, brunet... haha all kinds! i guess the common factor was that i really clicked with them personality-wise. if you had to ask what i was attracted to, i like mixed guys or the tall dark handsome type, taller than me, short hair, NOT hairy (yuck).

All the guys I've ever crushed on and dated were very nonchalant. Aloof and cool...Just the way I like 'em.

Skinny but athletic, dark haired, very smart, funny, and honest rather than sweet and nice all the time. Also older, but that may be because I don't know a lot of guys my age.

ugh. i ALWAYS find myself attracted to the same guys... it has yet to work out for me. i always end up dating tall, good-looking, self-centered musicians. i'm really ready to find a "nice" guy... but i find myself bored with guys who aren't artsy and somewhat rebellious.

I'm pretty shy and reserved so in the past I've gone for guys that were outgoing, and boldly flirtatious. However, after realizing that these guys are usually trouble, I have consciously changed my screening process to focus on the qualities that are most important to me and usually present themselves over time: sincerity, intelligence, kindness. I need a man of the most noble character. Physically, I like dark hair but can always appreciate a hansome blonde gentelman. I like a medium build, not too tall (I'm 5'1, so anyone over probably 6'2 is too tall for me) and not too short either. And I never, EVER date younger men.

One of my friends coined a term for the type of guy I seem to go for ... "tighty righty". What can I say...I like men in tight pants!? Really though, I like guys who are kind, artistic, intelligent and have killer senses of humor. I'm a film student so I also look for a guy who can appreciate the cinema.

I have dated them all. Preppies, artists, musicians, lawyers, poor, rich, older, younger. My only constant is that they have to be as tall or taller than me, no short guys, secondary is the fact that they have to have good teeth.

The funny guy for sure. I hate boring men. They have to be funny or I wont be interested.

I like Metrosexuals with dark features (i.e. eyes and hair not necessarily skin). However, the current guy is blonde with hazel eyes.

Physically, I've always gone for tall men with dark hair. Personality-wise, most of them have been very similar as well. It's not that I'm LOOKING for those personality traits per se, it's just that those are the guys I've found myself attracted to. Almost every guy I've been with has played an instrument. My current boyfriend plays three and also likes to write. I had an ex who was an artist. Most of the guys I date have little to no interest in sports (thank God), are tech-savvy bordering on geeky, have very offbeat senses of humor, read a lot, and are very smart but not very ambitious. Basically: smart, creative, sensitive slacker-dudes. But not slacker enough to be losers. They've all been self-sufficient and responsible.

Tall, Dark & nerdy/geeky!!! <3 nerds! I also usually go for more slender guys, big muscles/meat heads do nothing for me.

I forgot one virtue they all had in common: humble. I HATE conceited men.

The appearance of every guy I've dated has been different, but all of their personalities are the same. Mostly outspoken, very funny, smart and original.
