Do Tell: What Work Chore Would you Never Want to do Again?

We all have things we love and things we hate about our job, but unfortunately, it all has to get done, or does it? What if you could pass off that one annoying daily chore or spreadsheet, even that mandatory meeting to another employee -- would that make all the difference in the world to you? Ladies, do tell, if you could do away with one thing at work, everyday, what would it be?

this is going to sound stupid, but i hate having to fill up our water cooler jugs!!! we don't have one of those services that comes by with filled jugs...we have to fill them ourselves. which actually means I have to fill them myself!! they're so heavy and no one ever offers to help or even opens the door for me. lucky me, i'm quitting next week to go back to school! hooray!!!

i work retail, and my response is clearing the dressing rooms. people come into my store and after they're done trying on clothes, it's of course one of my duties to clear the room for the next customer. except i can't tell you how many times a day the room is TRASHED. hangers everywhere, clothes inside-out and wadded up in the corners - a disaster that takes time for me to clean up. how difficult is it to put things back on hangers? even if a customer does it incorrectly, it is still easier for me to fix it than otherwise. most people have the mindset that "it's what they're paid to do." NO. it's not my job to clean up after you!! it's my job to assist you. people are so inconsiderate and don't realize that retail associates have dozens of tasks every shift we work, and we are work in a very competitive, stressful, professional environment. this job has made me so cynical. i think that everyone should work at least once in their life in a retail job - you will never trash a dressing room again, i promise you that. sorry for the rant. *blushes*

JBlondie...for the record, I worked at a fairly large law firm for a year and HATED it!! I had to put up with the same type of crap every single day. If you're not a lawyer, then working for them will be complete misery (just in case anyone out there is considering working at a firm).

I have the same problem as you pinup....I never get thanked and people just assume that I do it even though it's really not my job. Also, to load the dishwasher.....we have a cleaning service that comes everyday but they don't load or empty the dishwasher, I end up having to do it every night!!! Last week, the dishwasher broke, so everyone (I work in a law firm with 12 attorney's and 5 staff) piled their DIRTY, NASTY dishing in the sink without rinsing them off....I ended up having to clean 12 grown adults dishes and cups and mugs by hand! It took me almost 2 hours to do it. Needless to say I was really really upset, to make matters worse, earlier that day I had overheard one of the attorney's in the kitchen say "oh, don't worry, Jess will clean them tonight". I am in the process of looking for a new job!

We have a fridge that has company sodas. I pretty much have to fill it several times a day (even though it is NOT my job). What annoys me is NO one else will do it. There is two rows of neatly stacked sodas in flavor order. Of course everyone will take a soda from the back and ruin the set up. Plus I never get thanks for keeping the fridge stocked.

I'm a teacher, and after standing on my feet all day, the last thing my knees and my back want to do is bend over and pick up all the junk that inconsiderate students leave behind on the floor. I remind them repeatedly, and ask them nicely, but their attitude is "That's what janitors are paid to do." Unfortunately, if I took that attitude, my chalkboard would never get cleaned, so I crawl around picking up gum wrappers, discarded notes, deserted books, destroyed pencils, et al. I hate it so much. I hope my students aren't that messy at home.

i could really do without the condescending attitudes of some people i work for. i'm a part-time construction worker (a contractor's aide) and usually work on house remodelling or renovation projects in very wealthy neighborhoods. dealing with the owners can be a real nightmare- some people really have no idea it's not polite to talk down to your employees... or tell them they're dirty. i'm a house painter. you asked me to paint your garage brown. yes i have brown paint on my hands. get a clue. also i hate it when ppl act as if i'm invisible. like i'm standing right there and those two high school brats start complaining about how poor they are because one of them can't afford the new gucci bag or whatever and how their mom is being a bitch because she didn't buy her a bmw but "just" a bentley for her birthday. maybe they assumed that just because i'm a labor worker i don't understand english or something. fact is i'm a 4.0 gpa in college and an english/french double major. i just don't happen to have daddy's credit card at my constant disposition.

I work in a Pharmacy as a tech, but people seem to think we're all pharmacists. Which is fine until we get the "I have this rash" question. I can usually get away quickly enough to not see it, but bleh. It's also part of why I chose to not be a pharmacist.

i work at a daycare, so i would have to choose to NEVER have to change a kids wet/dirty pants or wipe any bottoms, or clean up vomit. the bloody stuff i can handle. (that doesn't happen very often and it's usually just nose bleeds)

Answering the phones!!! We get so many wrongs numbers and telemarketers at my office. People are so insistent that they have the right number. I pretty sure that since I work here I know we are not a college financial aid office, a credit card payment line, a travel bureau (for another state!) or a tv store.

Email. I took one day off for community service and got 200 emails! They pop up every few seconds and are completely distracting. Unfortunately I can't just ignore them because in financial services everyone expects you to respond right away.

This is a tough one. My actual duties don't bug me as much as the attitudes around here that pop up now and then. I would love not to have to answer the phone. At the moment we don't have a receptionist so I take phone duties along with everything else. It takes so much time away from what I really need to do in the day. I don't hate-it would just be nice to really focus on my important work instead.
