Do Tell: When You First Fell in Love, Did Your Other Relationships Suffer?

We all know that love can be blinding, but new love can be overwhelming to the point of all consuming. And sometimes, when reveling in a new relationship, old priorities can suffer the consequences. For some it's their job, families, or friends, and for others it's a combination of all three. While it's natural to want to be with that special someone every chance you get, doing so can easily offend or hurt your loved ones — especially when they feel like they've been put on back burner. I know I've been guilty of this before so tell me, have any of your relationships ever suffered when you first fell in love?

All my other relationships were in the toilet anyway. My parents just got divorced so I was pissed at both of them. My BFF and I had a major falling out. I didn't go to school any more than I absolutely had to so I didn't really see any of my other friends. When I met my husband we were so in love because we didn't really have anyone else. It was nice not to have to worry about them.

I remember being the single kid and being SO bitter when my friends did this. Then I met my boyfriend and I would TOTALLY be doing the same thing, except thankfully, he's stationed 5 hours away. *(Wow, that's the first time I've been happy he's so far away...haha!)*

awww, not really. mainly because some of my best friends at that moment were so busy/self-centered/had other issues going on in their lives, it took them a year to find out (because I told them) that I was in love. and then, they tried to warn me against her, but they hadn't even talked to her once so it pissed me off that they spoke about what they only knew from gossip (which isn't exactly a reliable source - especially in a private high-school). it's not like they really cared anyway.

I was guilty of this for the first couple months of my current relationship, then I realized that I needed to spend time with my girlfriends too and that I was neglecting them. I felt really bad.

I think to a certain degree it's normal to burrow in when you finally meet that right person. The chemistry is intense and you're starting to build a life together. But I also think that when I met my fiance, I was so happy that I wanted to be out and see people, so it was kind of a mixed bag.

unfortunately, yes I have. when I first met my husband I wanted to spend ALL of my time with him, and I did. That made my friends resent my husband b/c I never saw them...eventually it all evened out though.

It did with my first love. I didn't listen to my mom or my dad when he was a good for nothing. I loved him. Now that I am not with him and am older I realized that I was blinded!!! WIth my current relationship, my bf met my family and friends. He's the one I really love and he hasn't ruined any of my relationships with my friends.

I too am guilty of this. I know that I put things to the side to see and be with my husband now and I know I was like that years ago. But my mom has been really bad at this for my whole life so I think I have had a bad role model. She's really bad now with her new boyfriend, when things are good she doesn't care diddly about anyone else. Eh. We're all human we all make mistakes.
