Do You Often Feel Guilty?

Be it skipping the gym, snapping at your significant other, or not calling your mother enough, life is full of situations that make us feel guilty. Sometimes I even feel guilty for feeling too guilty!

A new study shows that while women feel regret to a point that it's destructive, emotionally-detached men tend to be guilt deficient. Men have more trouble seeing how their action or inaction affects others. It sounds to me like each sex has something to learn from the other.

curiositykat, I feel the same way: sometimes when I'm feeling guilty I'll notice someone in the exact same situation who seems to feel little/no guilt and I wonder how we can both have different reactions.

I felt guilty the other day when I got a manicure and pedicure for the first time. Having someone scrub my feet was such a guilty feeling. I definitely feel bad often.

I feel that I let guilt consume my life at times. It is interesting, because I observe the effects my reasons for being guilty has on others who are in the same situation, and I wonder how two people can feel such different levels of shame and remorse. I have rare moments of clarity during my guilt that shine a light on my obsessive ways and makes me realize how useless guilt is in some situations. That knowledge helps me when I get consumed with guilt.

Always. It doesn't even matter if it's because I've done something wrong or just because I have some sort of advantage over others... I sometimes feel like I don't deserve what I get, then again, others have more opportunities that me.

I understand destructive guilt. I dwell on things a lot, and sometimes I even get such strong feelings of empathy (I'm not sure what else I would call it, Weltschmerz? World-pain?) I actually feel guilty for other people. My poor conscience.

I am Catholic, I am Italian & I am a "guilty" person by nature. I feel bad when I splurge, cause we have no money, I feel bad for possibly offending, I feel bad about a lot of stuff. I don't know any possible way to crack that.. it's how I was rasied. I used to over analyze a lot.. I'm trying to stop that - that's easier for me than the guilt thing...

i'm between those two extremes...i definitely get a nervous feeling, somewhat guilty feeling in my stomach about certain situations until i analyze them to the death and rationalize what i've done...but i woulnd't say OFTEN and i am not the kind of person with a guilty concience either...i'm able to let stuff go pretty fast i think i just try to make decisions i can live with and that's why i don't feel too guilty very often
