I wanted a bra SO bad in 4th grade, but my mom was nice, and she humored me with one. I think I wore it like, twice. After that, I started wearing a bra when I was around 12 or 13, because at that time, I actually had boobs. Albeit, not very big, but still boobs. I realized I needed one when I was playing with some guy friends and they shot water guns at my boobs to see through my shirt. I didn't like that. Anyway, in 4th grade, I was like, feeling myself up, and my mom saw me and was like "WTF are you doing", and I said I needed a bra because I was "developing". And don't get me started about not telling dad -- moms always sing like canaries about their kids. Honestly, dad doesn't want to know you got your period or you wear a shut your mouth, mom.

My dad told me I needed to start wearing a bra. Talk about embarrassing.

My mom tells me that when I was younger I kept asking for a "boobie holder" like hers.

She should be way more embarrassed about her grammar and spelling! I was better at that age and English is my second language, I started the English studies only in second grade.

I work at VS. Sadly, mostly on weekends, we get groups of girls under 14 that come in shopping for lingerie. Yea, there's the Pink area, but some of them like to venture to where the slinky stuff is. I think its awful the example that is being set to little girls that its everything to have boobs. I remember one time, I had to tell this 12 year old about how I didn't grow boobs until I was a Freshman in college. I gave her a little pep talk about being made fun of for being super skinny and flat as a washboard, but then I pointed out how many of the over-developed girls end up getting treated like meat by guys. She felt alot better and was smiling when she left. Sorry for the long one, just felt like sharing a heartwarming story.

aw the same type of thing happened to me when i wanted to get thongs! i wrote a note to my mom and she put the note on her mirror where my dad could see it and she bought me a thong for hannukah and my brother made so much fun of me and i felt terrible! she refused to throw out the note but i was so embarrassed i snuck into her room and stole it and ripped it up! not a good experience. :(

I think it all started after I read Are You There God? It's Me Margaret, but I was totally the same way when I was that age. I begged and begged until my mom finally caved and bought me one. I was shocked by how uncomfortable it was, though I did feel very mature. Hahaha.

OHMYGOSH i literally could have written this note. My mom has sooo many notes saved from my childhood/pre teen days, telling her about things I was too embarrassed to say in person. Everytime I had a new "boyfriend" in middle school, I would write her a little note (on my typewriter, no less haha) telling her. I would also inform her NEVER to mention the letter to me in person and DO NOT tell anyone else what it said, or else I'd never speak to her again. I'd also always sign it with my first and last name, lol. Obviously, I was a dramatic little introvert.

That's nothing. I knew this girl who got her first bra in THE SECOND GRADE. Granted, it was a sports bra with soccer balls on it, but it was still kind of hilarious. Especially since she went around showing it to everyone.

I wanted a training bra SOOO bad in fifth grade. But my mother replied (loudly) that I didn't have enough upstairs. I almost died of embarrassment in the store.

aww, girls in 5th grade mostly wear bras now (at least at the schools my girls go to). i feel bad because there is pressure to fit in and a mom saying "what would you do with a bra" doesn't help this kid. get her some sports bras if she doesn't really need them they're like undershirts.
