Where did I ever say you didn't have a right to rage at whatever you want? Similarly, I have a right to say it makes me depressed and drives me bonkers. What gives?

I have business "Raging" about whatever I darn well deem fit to rage at, being an american gives me that right. sorry that our voicing dissent makes you uncomfortable

The outrage was directed (through fear) at terrorists and WMDs and Osama and various foreign leaders...oh, and issues we really have no business raging about, such as gay marriage and legislating morality. The rest of the outrage was supressed by dems who felt like it wouldn't do any good anyway. I should know, I was one of them. Now, like you, I am left scratching my head, rolling my eyes, and avoiding "news" like this.

Oh, and the dog is really cute.

Jill, I hear you. Reading about this Tea Party stuff is making me batshit crazy. It's making me depressed about people's analytical and critical thinking abilities. It's also like people have no short-term memory. No recollection that first 780 billion went out under Bush. No recollection about the huge defecit he built up. No recollection about the historical income tax rate. I'm NOT a fan that we're raising taxes and spending money here. But I wasn't a fan that we were spending the money under Bush either. Both this administration and the last one have paid little mind to balancing the budget. It just makes me bonkers that the outrage is pouring out NOW and is directed at Obama only. Where was all the outrage for the last 8 years? Where?

Thanks for that link! I'll definitely read up on it; it makes me hopeful that things will get cleaned up. OMG, my roommate and I totally lost weight that year. I can't imagine how someone would do 21 meals a week all by themselves! When I had a meal plan just for myself, I had 10 a week, and some "Flexi," which was money you could only spend at the union or at the convenience stores on campus. My boyfriend at the time worked for sysco on campus (he ended up going to culinary school after he finished his bachelor's) and knowing the ins and outs of how the food was made simply made it less appetizing. ;) But seriously, I don't have any idea how students live on that 100% of the time.

Coolness! Those university food programs were just begging you to be fat, I swear I had to eat 4 meals a day with the number of meals they give you a semester.

chat, I recommend you check out this site It gives details on a piece of legislation Obama co-sponsored and has good support in Congress though it hasn't passed yet (that I know of). Hopefully soon!

mydiadem, Sysco Food was the provider of food at my university union. I don't know what the word is for the throwing up smiley, but that's what I'd use if I knew how to. ;) My sisterly-roommate my junior year was a freshman, and her parents had bought her the 21/weekly meal plan - which, given that she never ate breakfast other than coffee in our room, left us 21 meals for lunch and dinner - since we were practically attached at the hip, we were down in the union for "free" food most afternoons and evenings.

OK, we get it. The first dog is cute. First Dog:This week::Gay marriage:Last Week? Do we really need daily updates on him? I'm terrified of the pirates, but I have to say I never thought there'd be an appropriate time to use this smiley, Citizen! :yaar: There must be something we can do about those offshore tax havens? :( Cheating on your taxes is just so wrong at such a basic level to me. Makes me sick!

I'm not sure how the 12 trillion figure came about but I would be curious to see some supporting information. Just an aside - the stimulus was 787 billion, 16 billion of which went to my state and I already see projects starting or about to start in my community including resurfacing our crumbling roads, repairing and expanding sidewalks, 6.5 million for our local VA Medical Center, and a local company Sysco Food Systems will make its 190,000 square-foot building expansion LEED certified through energy efficiency funding creating new jobs in the process.

"And yet that's nothing compared to the $12 trillion Obama has spent in the last 3 months, and on people who don't deserve it!" He has spent 12 trillion? I have not seen these figures reported. If you are talking about the banks, etc., I would say I agree they don't deserve it.

No offense, but I think the Somali pirate story is a tad more important than our President's dog.

Jill there was a great article in the NYT about two days ago about who's really funding a lot of these T.E.A. A lot of them are corporations, who's owners and top executives are the one who will actually be affected by the tax, instead of the people attending them.

I agree with Jillness...the timing I find really strange. There's a editorial cartoon in my local paper today that echos my sentiments about this exactly - I can't link to it though. :(

"the Congressional Budget Office estimates Bush’s cumulative ten year deficit at $2.3 trillion, to be sure, a breathtaking shortfall from the $5.6 trillion surplus he inherited from Clinton" And yet that's nothing compared to the $12 trillion Obama has spent in the last 3 months, and on people who don't deserve it! Not one "average American" has seen a dime, and yet we are supposed to be ok with this?
Jillness Jillness 8 years
Bush started with a surplus and ended up with a Trillion dollar deficit. "the Congressional Budget Office estimates Bush’s cumulative ten year deficit at $2.3 trillion, to be sure, a breathtaking shortfall from the $5.6 trillion surplus he inherited from Clinton" The money to fill the deficit has to come from somewhere. And yes, there is money being spent on new debts now, but after nearly a decade of infrastructure decay, it was going to have to be taken care of some time. Plus, the recession we are in is quite extraordinary and unprecedented in it's global scope.

Amy, you know parents talk about getting the kids pets when in reality it's their pet. I'm just saying.

Jillness, there is a HUGE difference between the amount of money that was spent then, and the amount of money wanting to be spent now. We're talking trillions of dollars here.

That's funny, bella! I could SO use a picture of Michelle Obama, in the White House Garden, with the dog by her side. :rotfl: And she'd HAVE to be in a tank top, sportin' her arms.
