I don't think we all are going to bad mouth a guy who does something, like drinking, legally. I think the real issues with Phelps is 1)He wants to market himself to the younger crowd/kids, and 2)He was caught doing something that is currently illegal. If he wants to fight to make Pot legal, do that first, and then screw up your body later.

The case to make marijuana legal and the case against Phelps are two different issues. Regardless of whether it SHOULD be legal, it isn't and that means there ARE harmful effects.

I don't think Phelps should have had to have apologized at all. He has a right to be human and have made a mistake. Though, regardless, it's his body, and if he wants to smoke pot, I think he has the right to. (But then again, I think pot should be legal anyways. And no, before someone starts in on my being a pot head, I DON'T get high). And on a more important note: GO STEELERS =D Win #6, WOOHOOOOOOOOO!
The reason I was comparing the negative effects of alcohol to marijuana is exactly because alcohol is legal. Alcohol being legal does not take away all of the negatives that can come from drinking. The only reason the money for marijuana goes to these people is because it is illegal. If it was legal, the government could tax it, and therefore we would be supporting our country. So, make marijuana legal, and harmful effects of marijuana are gone.

I am an alcohol/tobacco/drug virgin. So I guess by your calculations, I'm the only one who has room to talk, right? Of course, that's totally incorrect. Plenty of people here drink LEGALLY and aren't being paid to be a role model. People have every right to "bad mouth" Phelps. As far as how harmful weed is, gabi pointed out in the Phelps thread how marijuana actually is very harmful. Money for pot is money paid to the violent, crime-ridden drug smuggling trade. Doesn't sound like a very nice thing to be spending your money on.
To all of you bad mouthing Phelps for partaking in a bong hit, have you ever drank? If you drink, you have no room to bad mouth anyone who smokes a natural plant put here by God. I'm sure the same people talking about how horrible marijuana is, have been drunk at least once in their life. Alcohol affects your ability far more than marijuana does. Also, the Olympic Committee is an international group, so do they hold onto the American law for marijuana, or go with the majority of the world's views. His endorsers saw nothing wrong with this, and even showed him support, therefore, not a problem. If there is a big deal to be made, it should be about his DUI after the last Olympics, not something like this that affects noone but himself. He has nothing to apologize for. As a matter of fact, the person who took the photo should apologize to him!

There's nothing wrong with smoking weed in and of itself; it's stupid, but it's his life. What is wrong is that he is in the public eye now and whatever he does the world can see, including children who look up to him.

The only thing that ticked me off about this game and turned it ugly for a minute was the Steelers #92 for no reason beating up on one of the Cardinals. He kept beating him dwn and wouldn't let him stand up. I was like what an @$$ hole! After being the hero of the game and running a 100 yrd touch dwn he's going to destroy that heroic image and act like a total prick. This is precisely why I have an issue with proffesional sports. These guys get put on pedistals and paid sickening amounts of money which we're all willing to tollerate apparently, but I also think that these bozzos should be held to a standard. If it were up to me his ass would have been kicked out of the game right then and there. Even Maden up in the booth mentioned that option.

The game last night was one of the best I've seen. I didn't think anything could top the emotional rollercoaster that was last year's SuperBowl but this was pretty close. I'm still trying to get my hearing back in order after sitting with what seemed to be just about every Steelers in the country

Weed may not be a very serious offense, but it's illegal. It puts his spot in the next Olympics in jeopardy. He was willing to risk everything just to toke up? He's a tool.

I watched the game at a Gay sports bar in Phoenix AZ (oxymoron?) I bravely cheared on the Steelers in a crush of Cardinal fans as I nervously kept watch. This had to be the best game that I can remember and the Cardinals have nothing to be ashamed of they played an outstanding game. I have to agree with the local crowed too the Mr. Warren is one hell of a looker, I said damn no wonder that got seven kids. As for Michael Phelps I say whoopti freakin doo. That aside he needs to be a lot smarter than this. If you're going to do that make sure you're in a closed environment and trust no one.

GO STEELERS! All I ask is that the Eagles win 1, just 1 superbowl!

Wow, did I really type win that won? My brain does not function without sleep... I really couldn't care less that Michael Phelps wants to toke it up every now and then. Is he out getting arrested every weekend? Is he beating up his girlfriend or getting into trouble at strip clubs? People act like weed is the worst thing out there.

MarinerMandy, a guy from Seattle was in my bar yesterday talking about the exact same thing! I'm still calling shenanigans on the fact that that last "fumble" which was OBVIOUSLY an incomplete pass didn't have a booth review. That was nonsense.

I big deal with smoking pot but in front of a camera? Didn't he buy a mansion or something? Can he not smoke in the privacy of his home?

When I hear about the Stealers lots of profanity spills forth from my brain. Still bitter about Super Bowl XL...they didn't actually win that won, it was handed to them on a silver platter by the refs.

I'm with em - I don't feel Phelps smoking weed is a big deal. The Daschle news is disappointing. "A committee memo obtained Friday by CNN indicates committee members want to discuss the use of a car and driver that Daschle didn't disclose on his income taxes, and nonpayment of taxes on more than $80,000 he earned in consulting fees after leaving the Senate."

I think it's hilarious that Daschle, the big spender, neglected to pay that much in taxes.

Congratulations to the Steelers and all of their fans. What a great Super Bowl it was!

I don't understand where all the hate for Phelps is coming from. Who cares if he smokes pot? The man is a national hero and he should be able to take as many bong hits as he wants. Marijuana is the gateway drug to 8 gold medals.
