There's A Fungus Among Us

There's A Fungus Among Us

Dear Sugar
My problem is my skin. I went on vacation last year and when I came back, my arms and back began to peel. It hasn't gone away. I have tried everything to get rid of it. I've even tried to go tanning again as a solution. What can I do to make my skin all one color? It looks like I am peeling at all times. I'm freaking out - tank top season is starting! Dear Splotchy Sarah
You need to see a Dermatologist. You could have Peeling Skin Syndrome which is a very rare inherited disorder. Its symptoms are continuous and irregular skin peeling and there are 2 forms of this disorder. One includes swelling and the other includes reddening. Does anyone else in your family have it? You could also have picked up a fungus while on your vacation that is causing the peeling and the discoloration. This can usually be treated with a topical cream in combination with an anti dandruff shampoo. If the peeling is affecting your back then the root of the problem could be your hair. Please make an appointment with an MD.
