Well, we'll probably know by the end of the summer whether you're right.

well if they want to be worried, thats fine. but the fact is that none of this is out of the ordinary.

I'm sure the timing and the other posturing going on isn't lost on the Iranians.

i think the term "reminder" is less agressive than the term "react" but maybe thats just me...

cause no one would believe him! either way, its still a reminder even though they've done it forever, would you feel better if he would have said "we've done this forever so we can react when sh*t goes down" i would have LOVED to hear him say that! :)

But Gates calls it a 'reminder' not just a business as usual, this is what the ships are for thing.

Thats what their purpose is, to be there in case something happens so we can react quickly.

We do this all the time everywhere... thats what those ships are meant for. We float around in case something goes down. Its been happening for many, many years and is no cause for concern. When the war started, the first troops to roll into Baghdad were from a ship like that.

Oops, we don't "need" an air base in Afghanistan or Iraq to protect ourselves from Iran or China!

If we didn't "need" an air base in Afghanistan and Iraq in order to protect ourselves from Iranian and Chinese aggression, would this even be news? The next President better be able to handle aggressive nations . . . and BHObama has already indicated he will "talk" to them, while HRClinton is "ready" but for what? So the only person who has been on the "inside" albeit tied up at the time, is the choice of reason for POTUS.

And certainly if Russia or China sent an aircraft carrier to hang around a U.S. coast, as a reminder, Washington would respond positively and not see it as saber rattling or a flat out threat. And we wonder why people in the Middle East have issues with us.

And what are we reminding them of? The fact that we can build ships?

That seems like a mighty big Post-it note if you ask me...
