Gay Couples Can Get Married in California on Aug. 18

Gay Marriage Moves Forward, Finds More Support

Judge Vaughn Walker rejected the petitions of gay marriage opponents today, ruling that as of Aug. 18 gay couples will be allowed to marry in California. While the Supreme Court will ultimately judge his decision to overrule California's gay marriage ban, it seems that regular Americans agree with him. For the first time — ever — more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it.

The marriage equality camp is getting love from unusual places. Yesterday when Bill O'Reilly, who's been on a roll lately, asked Glenn Beck if he thinks gay marriage will harm the country, Beck said: "No, I don't. Will the gays come and get us? . . . I believe what Thomas Jefferson said. If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what difference is it to me?" See that? Both Thomas Jefferson and Glenn Beck support gay marriage!

Obviously, anyone putting actual effort into keeping one group of people from marrying is motivated by prejudice and hate. Marriage is between two people; two consenting adults. It's no one's business but the two adults involved. Interestingly enough, no one has ever tried to legislate who can have children. Absolutely ANYONE can have children. Drunks, drug addicts, mentally ill people, mentally handicapped people, people with no money to feed their children, people with genetic diseases that can be passed on to their offspring, people with criminal records, pedophiles, sadists---- even convicted murderers can have children! No one would dare to attempt to draw up a law that would require the sterilization of a group of people seen as unsuitable for parenthood. So, why for Pete's sake is anyone trying to legislate who can get married? Just being married doesn't hurt anyone. It doen't cost tax payers anything. It doesn't affect anyone outside of the couple. So why are law makers letting prejudice write our laws?

I have to agree with Glenn Beck on this one. (Assuming he actually meant it, it wasn't just a ratings ploy.) Of course, the conservative Republicans I know always fire back that it is their business because gay marriage ruins the sanctity of marriage. So does divorce. I would actually support tightening of divorce laws before I supported a gay marriage ban.

Wow...more Americans must agree for Glenn Beck to say that, because this has to be a ratings thing right?

Holy shit! Beck does but Obama doesn't? Did anyone read that link over to his quote! For the first time in his life, he sounds sort of smart.

I'm not too sure where you got the idea that he supports gay marriage. He's a devout Mormon, folks. The devout ones generally don't support things like abortion and gay marriage. He prefers to concentrate on bigger things on his shows. That's why he takes a hands off approach to these subjects, hence the quote from Thomas Jefferson.
