German Man Torches Car to Protest High Gas Prices
A German man doused his BMW with gasoline and torched it on Friday in protest at skyrocketing fuel costs, police said. The unemployed 30-year-old man drove the black 1995 BMW 3-series sedan onto the lawn outside Frankfurt's convention center grounds at about 7:30 a.m., police spokesman Karlheinz Wagner said. He then jumped out, emptied a canister of gas over the vehicle, and set fire to it, Wagner said. By the time the fire department got to the scene, the car was entirely burned out.

MarinerMandy, BMWs are a dime a dozen in Germany but they are still expensive, sometimes more expensive than countries they import to. BMW knows German folks will buy their cars regardless, because of nationalistic reasons. As for this case, every country has its loons. This is very unlike eco-friendly German behavior for the simple reason that most Germans are fine with high gas prices as it pushes people to conserve resources and energy. It sounds to me like this is one selfish, rich mofo who threw a tantrum because he can't leisurely drive 200km on the Autobahn as much.

I hope there wasn't someone inside the car when he torched it. I know they have a history with that sort of thing.

that seems so UN-German. They are such orderly rule-followers. In my friend's little town, they'll yell at you just for jaywalking. well, I guess Germans can lose their cool too! :)

Good shoes are expensive and walking can be tiring - is he going to shoot himself in the foot to protest them?

Are BMWs a dime a dozen in Germany? I'm not exactly sure how his approach is going to lower gas prices, but I guess it's his loss.

I wouldn't have done that but what a way of getting his point across.
