Good Idea or Bad Idea: Using your Resources to Get the Dirt

Ever since the Internet and resources such as Google, no one's anonymity is safe. With just a few key words and mouse clicks, you can easily find endless information about the guy you met last night or your new work crush. While getting to know someone takes time, do you think it is a good idea or a bad idea to use outside resources to get a jump start on the ins and outs of a potential mate?

its just too iffy for me i guess, part of the fun in dating is "discovering" the person! :)

I found out the guy I was dating lied to me about his age and said he was 4 years younger than he is. I found his resume online and saw his date of college graduation -- I said to him "wow you must be really smart to have graduated 4 years early - what did you skip high school?" He had to admit the truth that he was 38, not 34 like he had intially told me.

I like getting to know someone slowly. That being said, if there's anything I *should* know about a guy I might date, then yeah! Bring it on. But not everyone turns up on a google search. I don't.

If it's stuff on the internet, it's on the internet. I don't think it's an invasion of privac or anything of the sort. Going through a closed (or cracked open) drawer is wrong, but if they are dumb enough to put something they don't want seen on the net, then it is not your problem.

you never know what you're going to find, whether it be good or bad. i'd rather be informed either way. :)
