Group Therapy: Am I Addicted to Sex?

This question comes from Group Therapy in our TrèsSugar Community. Feel free to add your advice in the comments!

My boyfriend and I have a great relationship as well as a great sex life. Although we've been together for a while we still have great sex almost every night we are together (4/5 times a week). Sometimes I feel like I need to have sex with him in order to go to sleep and the days I'm not with him I find myself masturbating a couple times a day. Is it normal to want sex so much?

Have a dilemma of your own? Post it, anonymously, to Group Therapy for advice, and check out what else is happening in the TrèsSugar Community. Maybe we'll feature your content on TrèsSugar.

I'm so glad I'm not the only woman that loves sex! People try to make you feel like your weird or not normal for actually enjoying one of the most wonderful recreational activities available to us. Don't feel bad because some people are uncomfortable with their own sexuality, just enjoy yours! I have sex almost everyday and when I do I have multiple orgasms, it is great and it has taken me years to be comfortable with the fact that it is natural for me to be so sexually active. Most men are actually threatened by a woman that knows what she wants and expects more than just a couple minutes every now and then! My ex husband was one of these men and after 6 years I just couldn't take it and all the other crap he put me through bc of his own inabilities and insecurities. Don't let anyone else tell you whats normal as long as your not hurting yourself or anyone else! =)

I think Cherrypop is spot on! I want to meet her! The world of double standards and labels. 'Seems to me that if we enjoy sex we are addicted, if we don't we are frigid! We are either sluts (hate the word!) or prudes. I am proud to be an orgasmic sexual woman. I enjoy partner sex and masturbation, one is not a substitute for the other, the needs for both are quite different.

This seems perfectly normal to me. Your not going out and finding random ppl to have sex with just b/c your b/f isn't around, which is a common thing ppl w/ sex addiction do. You sex drive is healthy and worries!

Maybe its a lil too much but if you have it like that. Then good for you. I only have sex like 3 times a week.

I agree with what Venus1 said. And it's perfectly normal. Masturbating a few times a day isn't a lot as long as it doesn't interfere with your life. I do the same thing too (wants sex and masturbates) and my bf thinks I'm addicted, he should be glad that I have a high sex drive!

All sounds perfectly healthy to me! I have sex 3 to 4 times a week (more if I'm on holiday) and masturbate once or twice a day; I don't feel addicted but I do have needs! I could go without but why should I and why should you?

I have sex that often. Sometimes we'll even drop the kid off at my moms and plan on going out to dinner or to a movie, and we'll end up staying home and missing our reservation. We will run late for social events sometimes, but we rarely miss them. I want an orgasm when I have cramps, a headache, a bad day, etc. It's natures way of getting rid of tension, just like Ski and AC said. I've been married 5 years and the sex only gets better.

it does seem like a lot, but then again, it's not super weird like Arctic Cat said, it's a way to relax and relieve tension....some people read before bed, and you seem to have gotten into the habit of having an orgasm as your way to unwind when i was in school, i would do it with my (then) boyfriend like 3-5 times a it's not even every day with my current (live-in) boyfriend just because our lives are busy and the opportunity just doesn't always present itself until we are so exhausted at the end of the day i don't think it's weird, necessarily, i wouldn't worry about it unless it's affecting your life negatively - ask yourself the questions Arctic Cat posed, and i would add to that: are you turning down social events to stay home and have sex?

It sounds like you just have a healthy sex drive. I feel that reaching orgasm can be a healthy way to relieve everyday tension and relax your muscles and your mind. Are you asking this because you feel guilty about masturbating? Do you ever use sex to cover up or avoid dealing with any problems in your life? Is the sex with your partner about connecting and reaching intimacy together or just about you having an orgasm?
