Hairstylist Hiatus

Dear Sugar
I have been using my sister-in-law as my hairstylist for the past 2 years. She's been terrific until she chose to cut my hair really short. She did a horrible job and I had to pay someone else to fix it. I don't want to upset her and make her feel like I hate her work, but we have different tastes. She's a bit of a basket case and she has picked many fights with me in the past, so I am afraid of upsetting her. How can I tell her that I want to break up with her without her freaking out? Scared Sis

Dear Scared Sis
It's hard to mix business with family. Especially when your hair is the business at hand - it's a personal subject. Unfortunately you can't really tell her the truth if she's going to react like a lunatic. So just tell her that you had a hair emergency and that you went to someone else on your way home from work one day. You loved what the person did so you are going to try them out for a while. Just explain that it's close to your office and now with your new short hair, it's going to require more frequent maintenance. Hopefully she'll get the hint. If she questions you then be as honest and as gentle as possible.
