Haven't Bought Your Sweetie Flowers? Buy Kenyan!

Haven't Bought Your Sweetie Flowers? Buy Kenyan!

We mentioned the Kenyan rose industry earlier this week — and just in time to buy your sweetie a big bouquet, the UK government is telling consumers to buy the African roses to help the troubled country.

A recent study also showed that roses grown and imported from Kenya, produced fewer emissions than those grown in heated greenhouses in Holland. Though to have the biggest impact, romance-loving consumers should look for roses that feature the "fair-trade" label, to ensure that the Kenyan workers are treated fairly as well.

What do you think? Will you look for Kenyan flowers to love your Valentine, and your world?

Thanks Citizen for the info on the picture. But these people could very well be Kenyans. Kenya has a very large population of Indian-descended people. My brother visited Nairobi a few years back, and he said you would meet upon as many Indian Kenyans as Black Kenyans. *This is not to say that the women in this picture are in fact Indian.

I agree with syako - too much oil to get them here. Buy local!

I would if I had any idea where to get them I guess? I guess they should have marketed that more here in the US as they did in the UK.

Well, the picture is from a rose market, but you're right, the market isn't in Kenya... It was such a pretty look at the international rose-trade, I couldn't resist.
