Hillary Clinton Going on O'Reilly Factor: Good Idea?

Hillary Clinton Going on O'Reilly Factor: Good Idea?

Hillary Clinton is set to appear on the Fox News' O'Reilly Factor tonight! Democrats and progressives in general typically view the show's conservative host, Bill O'Reilly, as a sworn enemy, or at least unworthy of recognition. But, it looks like tonight, there is another Bill in Hillary's life.

I suspect that the interview will be pretty civil, and O'Reilly's "gotcha" questions will probably give Hillary a chance to deride her absent opponent Barack Obama. O'Reilly may have an incentive to see Hillary win the nomination, as many conservatives have an anti-Hillary script readily available for the general election.

Last Sunday, Barack made his debut on Fox News, where he rejected Hillary's calls for another debate.

What do you make of the Hill-Bill showdown? Does Hillary deserve some credit for treading into hostile territory?

That's kind of why I like her. I think that she has the policies and values of a democrat with the "balls" of a republican.

it's not like hillary is actually a true democrat anymore anyway, so why should it matter? she's mccain lite as far as i'm concerned.

Believe me cab, that is not a regular occurrence. And I had to work my butt off in that "debate"

:ROTFL: Syako!!! That's quite a feat!

"my husband saying "you're right, you're smarter and I'm dumber" uh, could your husband teach that to my husband please?
syako syako 9 years
harmony my husband and I were both impressed with her performance last night. I was thinking about you (well actually Kate Winslet) the whole time. We then followed up with a healthy debate on health care where the conversation ended with my husband saying "you're right, you're smarter and I'm dumber" :rotfl: Sometimes they need to be put in their place, right? ;) :notworthy: :encore:

Ooooh I thought she did really well! That isn't easy territory to cross. I think she held her own with him. She never let him run away with the conversation. Didn't it seem like against his will that he secretly respects her? :ROTFL: Cabaker I loved that part too! I wonder how Obama would do on that show. Because he has a slower speaking style and doesn't like to interrupt people. I wonder if Bill would let him get a word in.

"She's smart enough but frankly, she's probably more calculating than actually intelligent" I agree! That is articulated perfectly. I don't see having constitutional debates w/ Hilary, but I'd never think she's dumb... "Nothing pisses me off more than politicians pandering to voters and projecting that a policy is in their best interest, when actually it does the OPPOSITE." Totally - I really wish there were more cost/benefit analysis and discussions on policy. And that more people cared about policy rather than easy slogans and personalities. I want to know what the differences in what representatives and candidates are actually doing. The simplistic dems are for education and reps are for security is just a little ridic to me... they both have plans for both, and need to tell me why I should agree with them. Then again, I'm from a small town, so I prob just cling to my guns and religion rather than pay attention to the real problems around me.... (sorry, felt snarky)

Gotta say Hills did a great job. I love Bill. O'Reilly that is. He really let her have it with some tough questions. She looked like she got a little mad a few times. I love what he said about her universal healthcare plan. Can't wait for tommorow night!

Ok so, its over now... and I have to say, I laughed out loud when he asked her if she was surprised that she is getting treated more fairly from Fox News than any of the other big media outlets and she said slyly "i would expect nothing less than fair and balanced from fox news" haha! that was pretty funny! And I felt some personal validation for him calling her out on upstate NY. I'm from there and she promised us the world back when she was running for Senate, and the situation there has gotten worse.

I agree, cabaker27. She's doing really well, but I suspect she was coached or handled to within an inch of her life. O'Reilly's been gunning for a Hillary interview for YEARS.

Thank you Mandy! I respect your opinion a lot, so that is very flattering coming from you! :) I just wish there was more talk of pros and cons that go along with each policy idea. It seems like all we have recently is slogans, with no talk of consequences or benefits.

Ok so I'm watching it right now and I have to say.... I'm REALLY impressed with her so far. She is has shown good humor and is speaking very clearly so its easy to understand for someone like me :) Jill she said that she would tax the oil companies to pay for the gas tax suspension, so we won't lose any money... what do you think about that?

"Nothing pisses me off more than politicians pandering to voters and projecting that a policy is in their best interest, when actually it does the OPPOSITE." Jillness, I don't know if I've mentioned this before but you are one of my favorite commentators and I completely agree with you on the gas tax holiday. Personally, I'm not a fan Bill O (I know, shocking). I think the reason he cuts people off is to maintain the upperhand so no one can out argue him. It cracks me up how my future father in law always states that he's right because no one has a good arguement against him. Well, duh! It's hard to argue if you can't speak.

"The program is supposed to be entirely about policy and not morality." I hope more news programs follow suit! I LOOOOOVE policy talk!
harmonyfrance harmonyfrance 9 years
IMO she is the best at debate and weaker in her speeches, although I loved her post-win Penn speach. The program is supposed to be entirely about policy and not morality. So I'm hoping against hope that Rev. Wright won't even come up. (which actually I think he does according to a sneak peak...SIGH) Oh and where is anyone getting the idea that she would start her own party? She would not. :OY:

I agree with you about his style, syako. It doesn't matter how adamantly you disagree with someone, you can let them finish what they're saying. I think this could help or hurt depending on how she treats it. If she plays nice, that's conservative sympathy. If she butchers Obama, more conservative sympathy. But if she disagrees with O'Reilly in any way, that's just going to get her more animosity from conservatives. I don't think Hillary's all that great at debating or even discussing things (at least on television), but she IS incredibly tactical (though I must point out they're mostly dirty tactics), so I'm thinking she'll probably just spend her time their knifing Obama, since her and O'Reilly have that goal in common. And it's not the bitchiness, you can be mean, but still lead an honest, straightforward campaign. I'm tired of her spilling out the southern strategy crap, and we definitely don't need her starting her own party if she gets the nod. Party splits get the OTHER party elected.

I disagree with the notion that the only reason conservatives would want her to win the nomination is because they've got some sort of anti-Hilary campaign in the works. Sorry to point this out, but there's almost surely an anti-Obama campaign in the works as well. Personally I would like to see her win because her record is more conservative than Obama's and if we end up stuck with one of them I'd rather it be her, as unsavory as that idea is. And I love O'Reilly partly because he frequently points out that he is a commentator and not a journalist, and the differences between the two. Something the rest of the media would be wise to learn about. Take note, Bill Moyers... :)

" she's probably more calculating than actually intelligent: the health care plan she came up with as first lady was crap, with all her 'experience' she couldn't tell that Bush was lying to get us into war and she spent most of her time as first lady fighting with people." I agree. Like the gas tax holiday. She might sound tough when she is talking about it, but there are tons of unpartisan credible sources saying that this is a terrible idea. I haven't found any expert saying that this is a good idea. Her "security umbrella" idea...sounds good, but not practical or even remotely possible. I don't care if she is mean. I care if she has quality ideas.

I think she's smart for holding off an O'Reilly interview. Whether you like him or not he's a big gun interview that you want to keep in your back pocket for when you really need him. If she dances well with him it could proove to be a boost to her campaign.

I care if she's a mean girl - we've had plenty of mean people in past administrations and they are not helpful. Spiro Agnew, John Mitchell and Bobby Kennedy when he was attorney general come to mind quickly. She's smart enough but frankly, she's probably more calculating than actually intelligent: the health care plan she came up with as first lady was crap, with all her 'experience' she couldn't tell that Bush was lying to get us into war and she spent most of her time as first lady fighting with people.

"Jill you are really pissed about that!" Nothing pisses me off more than politicians pandering to voters and projecting that a policy is in their best interest, when actually it does the OPPOSITE. I do get very upset when politicians harm citizens for personal ambition. These are not game pieces she is lying to, they are American voters.

Who cares if she's a "mean girl"? I'm so sick of Hillary being attacked for being a bitch. She's a smart woman, a smart politian and she will be a GREAT leader. We elected a president because he was charasmatic and look where that got us. Words aren't everything, action is. Way to go Hillary for having the balls to go on O'Reilly. I can't wait.
