How Did Sarah Palin Spend $150,000?

Click to Read

How Did Sarah Palin Spend $150,000? Sarah Palin's stylists sure had to work hard to drop $150,000 on dressing the former Republican VP candidate. Vanity Fair's fashion department took Sarah's budget and came up with a dream wardrobe that would fit the bill.

It's been pretty sad all along. But as more information is released, I hope that the people will scrutinize her more closely when she runs for something. And when she submits expense reports to the state of Alaska. I have yet to read when, where or how they are donating those clothes to charity. I have found multiple articles on the Obama campaign donating furniture and leftover office supplies from regional offices to schools in those areas.

You have got to be kidding me with this crap. We have had probably 20 or more stories on this. It is just sad now.

I heard that too, Roar--and that she bought stuff for her daughter's baby daddy as well. Don't know if that's legit and confirmed, though. I'm with TS on this one... :oy:

Oops, guess I should have read all of the posts first. I see Ginger already posted the article about Palin's shopping spree.

"no one really talks about the kind of money she spends...except to point out that she wore a JCrew something or another once...regardless, it's annoying" She doesn't use public donations to fund her wardrobe. The whole thing is ridiculous. I heard that she bought stuff for her whole family and that she was actually told to only buy like six suits. I never followed through on the legitimacy of that story, so it may have turned out to be false. Did anyone else heare that?

Obama gets his suits at Hart Schaffner Marx, a Chicago company where the high end suits top out at 895. They even mention him on their website now. Newsweek reports that the shopping was way over the $150k initially reported and that the spending was driven by Palin, and some of the items can't be found: "One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family - clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books. . . McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request."

Dear Cyl, Be careful and specify that you want to run as a Republican. Democrats would likely give you a $100 Target card and a thumbs up. S

I am SO over this story! I wish they would break down the suits all the men wear, so sick of it! Please let it be over with!

Are you kidding me? Another post about Governor Palin's wardrobe? Not one mention of the still undecided elections, the Supreme Court case saying the Navy doesn't have to concern itself with the Environmental impact of its training missions, the proposed auto industry bailout... Seriously? :wanders away muttering:

Dear Americans, I am willing to run for your next VP. I am from BC in Canada...which in reality is a lot closer to the US than Alaska..I am also from Vancouver which is pretty much like Seattle...give me this wardrobe and I will represent you well!!!!

"I am sure that somewhere the campaign money is spent on personal things...you just never hear about it because they don't discuss it" They have to document where campaign money goes. It is part of the FEC rules and regulations. It makes me sad to think of the citizens that donated money to enable their leaders to fight for important issues...not $580 bras that no one but Todd will see! If I had donated money to them I would be feeling ill right now.

This simply must be a mistake. That much money for a few weeks of campaigning?? I know she needed a few nice suits, but the amount is so high. There were some nutty advisors in the GOP camp.

I'd have ruined most of the clothes before the campaign ended.

Also, is it just me, or would anyone else seriously not want to leave their homes wearing clothes this expensive? I mean, spaghetti sauce on a $11,000 suit? I barely wear the $800 necklace by bf got me, because if I ever lose it I'll feel like vomiting.

A comment from the original post: "What's the big deal about her clothing costs? That meant that $150,000 less that McCain could have used on his dumb tv/radio ads. Besides, even though I wouldn't consider voting for that bimbo, it's the least they should pay her for dragging her kids and husband all over the country to let the general public see just what a embarrassment she really is. I'd be ashamed if I were a resident of Alaska. Way to go John! Smart move! Posted 11/17/2008 by mymath Report abuse" I have to say, I agree.

I didn't know they made cashmere stockings. I could use those while I'm freezing my butt off, waiting for my bus every morning :) ...and there are TOTALLY underwear bins at thrift stores, so I guess some people do donate their underwear, but...yeah, I hope the undies stay with her...

Michelle used her own money to purchase the clothing she wore during the campaign, just like Cindy McCain used her own money to purchase her clothing. The sticking point is that they used RNC funds to buy Sarah and her family clothes. IMO this is a non issue for the general public and the RNC should handle it. Get someone to reimburse them or Sarah should just buy the clothes so everybody can just move past this.
