How Do You Feel About Online Dating?

Everyone seems to be into online dating. Theoretically it seems like a great way to meet people outside of your immediate social network and it's a place where you can really be yourself free from inhibitions since you aren't face to face. Even the beautiful bombshell, well newly reddishbombshell, Jessica Simpson seems to be hooked on it.

However, there are plenty of people out there who have online dating uncertainty. Some feel that it's a big erotic playground for stalkers, sex offenders and perverts to prey on innocent people and that you could never actually meet someone of substance from a website. How do you feel about it?

I think it's good to live close. internet dating's pretty good, but when they live far away and it turns into a long distance relationship then that's not good. i go out with someoen who lives too far away and i never get to see him, and it's not working out.

I think it depends on where you live. I have found that my friends that have done it in NYC met some pretty decent guys but living back in Portland, Oregon no way would it even cross my mind. I love my single life with my dog!

One of my coworkers actually met and married someone she met off an online dating service. I personally wouldn't do it. I don't have an overwhelming desire to hook up with anyone at the moment...I'm enjoying single life far too much.

I've gone out on quite a few dates with guys I met online. Nothing has panned out to a relationship yet. Like Jen said, it's no different than meeting someone in a bar. You exchange some pleasantries and then go on a date. It either works out or it doesn't. Obviously you meet in a public place. I wouldn't invite any stranger to my apartment or go to his. That's just common sense.

i met my boyfriend in a political chat room, it was completely random and unintentional. neither of us considered ourselves "internet daters". the first night we talked for 6 hours the first and have talked everyday for a year. everytime we see each other (he lives in florida and im in california) its like we have been together forever. if i would of done this poll a year ago i would of said hell no but my experience has made me change my mind what if the hokey pokey is really what its all about

A mutual friend of ours gave my husband my e-mail address to ask me a question. That led to about a year's worth of friendly e-mails, until we were both single, and he finally talked me into agreeing to meet him. From that first date, we've been unseperable except for his deployments. It let to 8+ years of happiness for me (and hopefully many more), but I'm not sure I would have ever met him had we not had a friend in common that said he was a good guy!

totally freaks me out. i couldn't go this route, heard to many horror stories. if there is a way to do background checks i would be less intimidated by it. but the idea of meeting up with someone on the internet and going to meet them gives me visions of disappearing women who are found chopped up in the park later.

I met someone via msn chat rooms and stupidly left California to go to New Jersey to live with him. This was back when I was 18, completely naive when it came to men. Anyway, the guy ended up being a total jerk...nothing like how he portrayed himself online. Everyone has different experiences, but I wouldn't do it again. ^_^

I know people that have met through online dating sites, some outcomes were good and some bad. One couple that met on ended up getting married and they're wonderful and very in love. On the other hand I have a friend that met 4 guys on yahoo personals,, and one other social site and they were all horrible to her. One of them turned out to be married.. and she only found this out after months of dating! You're right Jen, it's no different from meeting someone in a bar, but you have to be careful. As long as you get to know the person online first without jumping into an in person meeting, talk on the phone for a while, take it slowly, and make sure you meet for the first time in a very public place, it can be great.

I've never done it and don't plan on it yet just bc I am still young, but Jen you have a point. What's the difference meeting someone online as opposed to a bar, etc? My aunt does it and has met some great guys!

I have friends that met through and are married with two kids. Lots of people date through MySpace why not a legit dating site? What do you really know about someone you meet in a bar, anyhow?

I met my fiance online and he is the sweetest, most normal person you could ever meet. Online dating has worked for me because we got to click on an intellectual level before we saw each other, so I knew he really liked me for the person I am rather than just my looks.
