Is The Internet Killing Our Culture?

I was interested in what this English writer, here on Stephen Colbert's show, had to say about how he believes the internet is killing our culture. But between his smug mug, his weak to non-existent argument, and his incredible snobbery, I now feel safe to resume my part in destroying culture. Onward, Dramatic Chipmunk, Tay Zonday, and Mocha! We have work to do.

How is it killing our culture? People said the same thing when the telephone was installed in houses, and when the TV was invented. We're made to adapt and adjust to new technology.

Well, Andrew Keen appears to be working on the assumption that all artists have received fair payment and copyrights to their work. Not true. Also, "anonymous bloggers" being treated as less than "experts" for their opinions ... It was fairly common for writers and journalists of the the 18th and 19th century to use false names or pseudonyms in order to submit their opinions or rebuttals to paper editors as well as to express ideas that could've been considered slanderous or that challenged the status quo. Anyone recall Ben Franklin's Silence Dogood letters or his Poor Richard alias? Likewise graffiti has always been a realm of the underling and goes back, at least, to the time of Christ. Stephen is right in calling out this man as an elitist. We have yet to fully understand where the Internet is taking us. But one thing history has proven is that since the beginnings of time, control of the written word has always created controversy.

Such an interesting topic, altho I've got to admit I'm freaked out to be agreeing w/ the "Stephen Colbert persona" on a few of the points he made. LOL. In my state you can def. still serve a person going lalalalalala.

As an American, I didn't know we had culture. I thought "culture" is something we stole from surrounding countries.
