Joe the Plumber Headed to Israel to Find Other "Average Joes"

Joe the Plumber Headed to Israel to Find Other "Average Joes"

Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, known during the 2008 Presidential Campaign as "Joe The Plumber," is leaving his home fix-it-man days behind him and says he's going to Israel as a war correspondent for Pajamas TV. He told the media he plans to spend 10 days covering the fighting and that he wants to let Israel's "'Average Joes' share their story."

Joe became a symbol of the campaign and public figure after he asked Barack Obama about his tax plan and later joined John McCain on the trail. Are you interested to see Wurzelbacher's footage and his quest to share the experience of average citizens, or do you think the plan is too contrived?

Read in context: my point was either way, Joe was lying. Separate from Joe, it was a valid question: in terms of Joe, it was a lie which was what Hypno and I were wrestling over.

hypothetical does not equal invalid... Even as a hypothetical question it is a valid question, one that the media wouldn't ask, so he did. Try again Steph.

I agree Jillness anyone should own their words & actions. I just think that by his although be it (late) disapproval of Sen. McCain on some issues and the McCain campaign it was clear that he got swept up into something he was ill prepared for and didn't appreciate being used. His core message never changed but just as we learned with Mrs. Palin I'm sure what Joe had to say on the campaign trail was being strictly shepherded by the powers that be with in the campaign again something he resented. I told my friends just after the election I had a feeling Joe had second thoughts in that voting booth. As for the reporting job I say go for it. Here's a chance to reinvent himself and do something fun and interesting, why not.

I guess Paris Hilton was already booked that week. A lot of trained journalists get killed covering wars, but since it says he's going to Israel, the side that is most powerfully armed, he'll probably be fine. The bigger risk of getting hit by stray missiles is when one crosses onto the Palestinian side. But it sounds like Pajama Tv isn't interested in the real Joe's of that side. Those refugee camps and over run hospitals are not as photogenic.

Hypno, I think that him not being accurate in the past gives a person every right to be skeptical about his ability to be accurate in the future. Accurately conveying the scope of a situation is what field reporters in war are for...to tell us what is happening because we can't be there. Yes, I understand that when you ask a question on the fly you might not get specifics right. But why continue and not only repeat but expand the misrepresentation on numerous TV shows? At the end of the day, he might not have chosen the spotlight but he sure embraced it and therefore has to own responsibility for the way he represented himself.

Interesting: Hypno suggests the question was a hypothetical; Hain says Joe asked a valid question. Remember after the chat with Obama, Joe talked extensively with the press and appeared at McCain rallies. I don't recall him saying 'well, no I haven't worked as a plumber for a while (if ever)' or 'no, I never discussed buying my boss' business, or even asking him if it was for sale' or 'I don't have anywhere near the kind of money it would require to buy my boss' business'... so if we're going to be uber nice and say he didn't lie, we must at least admit he deceived, intentionally. And then he went around with people who called Obama a socialist.

Aww, thanks for clearing that up. Well, then yes, I am biased against Joe the Plumber. Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, I have now seen the light and the error of my ways :notworthy:

The fact that you even care about his license shows that you have a bias towards him. He asked Obama a question. A valid one. Regardless of what he made, his licenses, his kids, his custody, he's a bad father yadda yadda yadda.

I have no idea what you are alluding, Hainan. Please explain further.

I agree with most of your points Jillness. I do believe the McCain campaign used him and as we found out later on he in time resented the campaign handlers and found himself in disagreement on some fine points with Sen. McCain. Is it possible he lied? Sure it is however it is also possible he was also asking an intentional hypothetical for the benefit all or could it be that as an employee not being privy to the exact gross amount of his co. that he was guesstimating what they make because he did call out three different amounts with a 10 to 15 thousand dollar spread. That doesn't sound like some one who knows what their company made last year. My point is and this will be my final comment on this matter (I think), with all of these possibilities at hand the majority of us here choose to think the worst & make negative presumptions about his education, intent & character when we really don't know $#!+ about the man all because we do not like his politics and because he asked an untimely question which Barack Obama unfortunately did not answer to the best of his ability. Now ya'll are free to think what you want but I the difference between me and most here is that I choose to make my judgment with out passion.

Tiabia- that right there shows your bias, to me. Hypnotic- I am impressed by you to the core. I feel of everyone on this site, you are the most fair in your comments. I fall prey to the urge to be catty far to often. I wish to be more like you. I think I would try to capitalize on that opportunity as well. But, I sure as hell would not go to gaza. It may be his only opportunity to provide for his kids, but how bad would that be if something were to happen to him (unless of course he has life insurance)And his interviews, he stated his opinion of things. He may have not been fully educated about Obama's plan, but I saw many people on the news mis-stating McCains plan as well. I don't get the animosity towards him.

organic, perhaps that's why he didn't bother to get licensed?

Well, I'm not a huge Joe the Plumber fan, and he may not be the smartest man in the public eye, but at least he knows what socialism is.
