Was This Just a One Night Stand?

"Was This a One-Night Stand or Could It Be More?"

This question is from a Group Therapy post in our TrèsSugar Community. Add your advice in the comments!

I go to school a couple hours away from my hometown. Last school year, two nights before I moved back home for the summer, I went out partying with my girlfriends and ended up meeting a guy. We were both drunk and I expected it to be a pretty typical one nighter, but he ended up saying something along the lines of "I'd love to sleep with you but I don't think we should because I'd like to ask you out on a date instead." The next night, we went out for dinner, watched a movie, and he spent the night at my house. It was a really nice mix of no strings attached fun and actually connecting with someone — I had a ton of fun with him, he seemed like a great guy and we stayed up all night talking and fooling around. As cheesy as it sounds, we clicked. The next morning, unfortunately, I moved back home for the summer! I didn't really expect we'd stay in touch over the summer, so after a few stray texts and little effort on my part, that fizzled out (and very little effort on his part too).

Now, I'm not totally naive. I realize that a random drunk girl who is leaving town in two days is a pretty great way for a guy to get some no strings attached action. I realize there's a chance that this guy's intentions were never more than to have a few fun nights and never speak to me again; however, I'm back in town again and debating trying to get back in touch with him to ask him out on another date. My only real means of communication with him is texting. I'm pretty set on doing it because we have no mutual friends or anything, it was just a random encounter to begin with and even if he totally rejects me I'll likely never bump in to him. I don't want to be left wondering "What if?" So, what do I say? I was thinking of sending him a text like "Hey X, it's X. I'm back in town and seem to recall that I owe you dinner... what do you think?" I'm really bad with stuff like this and I think this guy is worth another shot, just in case it was just a matter of bad timing. Help!
