Katie Couric Talks Palin Interview: "We Gave Her A Lot of Opportunities" Katie Couric was out shopping in midtown with her daughters when she was caught by TMZ over the weekend. The cameraman quickly engaged with the CBS anchor and followed her down the street to ask about the Sarah Palin interview. Asked what she thinks of Sarah Palin "going after" her, Couric responded: "You know, I, I, don't know what to say. You know? I think, I feel we did a really good job. We gave her a lot of opportunities, so . . ."

Stewart moderating a debate would be good - I always find it painful to watch McCain on the Daily Show though, he tries too hard and I have to avert my eyes.

I would love to see all the candidates interviewed by John Stewart, or have him moderate a debate! At least it wouldn't be a snoozefest

No offense but Couric is a "softball" journalist, seriously she has not proven herself on the CBS Evening News as anything other than a talking head. And anyone who can't answer a Couric question ...well I will not elaborate!

Janneth, If she did she would have been accused of being biased ( due to her book) even though McCain's campaign had as much input on who would be the moderator for all debates. I think Gwen did the best job she could under the scrutiny of the suddenly offended RNC/McCain campaign. Anything other than hands off, and completely fair would have been bad for her.

"She did not once try to steer Palin in the direction of the actual question" I agree that I wish she had not allowed her to side step the questions, but at the same time Palin LOVES the victim card. If she had done that, Palin would have claimed she was being bullied by the person who wrote an Obama book. If they can say Couric is a bully, they will say it about anyone! I am just really surprised about the "what you read" question. That was a total softball and Palin acts like it was a big stumper, gottcha question. No, she didn't ask you how a nuclear reactor works, she asked what you read! So silly it blows my mind!

I thought Gwen was pretty weak as a moderator. She did not do her job. She did not once try to steer Palin in the direction of the actual question. On Meet the Press, Gwen just made a bunch of excuses for herself.

Did you see Gwen on Meet the Press? She said Palin just wanted to give her regular stump speech not actually bother with answering pesky question from her either :OY:

Yes I think Couric actually went in and asked her to clarify whereas during the debates Gwen couldn't say/ask anything to get her to be back on point and answer the question...not just answer what she wants to answer. Horrible journalism..asking someone to clarify when they don't answer your question...horrible.

Yeah, I love how she tries to blame being "irritated" with Couric for her horrendously vague and incoherent interview answers. Oh, and interviews tend to be back-and-forth affairs in which one is asked questions and expected to answer them, not talking-point-and-personal-attack delivery systems.

hausfrau...most celebs looking very different without makeup...I swear if I had the team of makeup artist, hair people, lighting and camera guys working on me as some of my clients 24/7 I'd be gorgeous too!

Yeah, the fault lies with the person who thought the interview would give her the platform to say the things she had recently memorized, not actually require her to answer questions without coaching.

Oh Katie.. we know.. we know. No one blames you for daring to ask questions.. even banal ones to let the American public get to know a candidate the republicans pulled out of their ass like a magic trick to razzle dazzle us. I blame the person too slow to realize she should have happily answered the questions vs blaming you of being annoying (everyone knows you are annoying.so even that excuse is lame). :OY:
