Pictures From the Running of the Brides in Maryland

Picture It: Say Yes to the Dresses

A bride-to-be grabs a rack of wedding dresses, after a rival bride snatched up the one she wanted. She's taking part in "The Running of the Brides," an annual event held when a Maryland store drastically drops its prices. I think I'd rather wear something out of my closet than find a wedding dress this way. What about you?

Running, I agree with you. Like you, Lissy, I've heard that most of the women aren't that competitive and have a ton of fun with it! I actually have a friend who went to it several years ago and met two ladies in line who became her "wedding buddies." She said it was nice to have two women who were planning their weddings at the same time as her; she had someone to call and commiserate with. They wound up attending each others' weddings and still get together for the occasional lunch or happy hour.

Meh, I think the "Running of the Brides" would be fun. People camp out, hang out... and you can find a $$$$ dress for $.

There's no way I would go to something like that. I dislike shopping in the normal sense!

I hate shopping as it is, so no, I wouldn't be interested in turning it into a competitive event.

from what I hear, that's not what it's like at all. Most of the women who go are super nice and help each other out by trading and stuff. The women I know who've gone all said it was a lot of fun. I know people who have also gone after the first few hours and some of the dresses are gone by then, but there are still many left and no standing in line and no craziness.

I would hate myself forever if I turned into this.

This kind of behavior appalls me. Seriously appalls me. The fact that there have been deaths during from riotous behavior during Black Friday sales is so freaking disgusting to me. Similarly, there is no need to trample over one another and act like a psycho for a stupid wedding dress. Ugh.

LOL...that made me laugh. I'm so with you, Chrstne.

Hell no! There is no way in the world I am going to take part in this. If you want a cheap wedding gown, David's Bridal exists. Nice dresses, and not costing a fortune. You could even get a gown at a boutique for not-so-ridiculous prices. In the event I was getting married and needed a dress, I'd skip the fiasco of other women trying to kill you for trying on a dress. I mean, these women act like they see a dress on a rack and it will magically fit or suit them. No need to trample people over dresses you won't even buy.
