Pope Bobblehead Rides Public Transportation

Pope Benedict is visiting Washington this week, so the city created TV ads encouraging people to take the Metro rail, featuring — what else? — a papal bobblehead. Apparently, the ads have since been pulled, which is a shame. The Latin chanting, the copy of Car and Pontiff, and the wobbly plastic Pope buying a commemorative rail "mass pass" . . . it's all too bizarre to believe.

Awwww. They should not have pulled that. Pope Benedict XVI has a classic sense of humor and would have laughed. But I'll betcha I know why they decided to pull it, even if they won't voice it. Poking fun at a Pontiff with a sense of humor is funny; poking fun at some other Heads of State (yes Vaticn City is a State) can get you "fatwahed" or worse. Sad isn't it that you can't just be the fun loving American you always were before 9/11/01?
