“I come to offer you the love and prayers of the nation," President Obama said tonight at an interfaith memorial in Newtown, CT, where he struck a tone of sorrow and anger. The president, who shed tears himself last Friday during a press conference immediately after the shooting that left 27 people dead, including 20 small children, assured the mourners that "all across this land of ours, we have wept with you. We have pulled our children tight. You must know that whatever measure of comfort we can provide, we will provide."
In addition to support, the president said he would "use whatever power this office holds to engage our citizens" to prevent mass shootings like this from happening again, even if it is a political challenge. "We can't tolerate this any longer," the president announced, continuing, "these tragedies must end." See photos of the memorial and the president in Newtown now.
