Prom Date Video Starring Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Aubrey Plaza

Who Was Your Prom Date?

I hope your prom date wasn't as scandalous as the one in this new "dirty short" for Orbit Gum. In the hilarious if cringe-inducing ad — produced by Will Arnett and Jason Bateman's newly launched DumbDumb venture — Bateman stars as an overprotective dad helping his daughter (Parks and Recreation's Aubrey Plaza) prepare for prom: "These boys, they know how to act all polite, then before you know it, they've got their Facebook all up in your Twitter."

Alas, the date isn't quite who dad expected. This would definitely be most fathers' worst nightmare, overprotective or not. Which makes me wonder: what was your prom date like? Was it a dream date or a nightmare? Please share your best prom date stories below.

My school was extremely small. I wasn't interested in any of the guys there, so I went alone with friends. We went as a mixed group - boys and girls - and only 2 of them went as a "date." Most of my school went sans date, except for people who brought dates from outside. I had more fun than I would have, if I had forced myself to get a date for the sake of it. I got to enjoy the night with my best friends.

I had already planned to go with a bunch of my girlfriends. The limo was already rented, the dress was set. Then this guy, who I was friends with since jr high, calls me after our senior ditch day and asks me to the most ackward phone call I've ever had. (Lots of uhs and ums). It was a four days before prom, so I told him yes but that I already had all these plans so he just joined along basically. Sadly, I found him on facebook and he was no longer the cute, shy nerdy boy but had turned into another meathead frat boy.

I didn't go to mine. 16-17 were some of the worst years of my life. Home life was chaotic which made it hard for me to care about school or its events. I'd like to go to a prom just to make up for what I missed out on.

My first prom date was a great gal pal from another high school. My second prom date was a guy friend. I didn't have a boyfriend at the time of my Junior and my boyfriend was 2000 miles away for my Senior prom.

My prom date, like Glowing Moon's, was my high school sweetheart. We dated from junior year of high school to junior year of college. It didn't work out, but we were so in love at the time. I will always value that relationship and I am pretty lucky I had an awesome prom... since, ya know, prom is such an important event in one's life... ha.

I was a foreing exchange student for a year and I didn´t want to miss it, so I invited another guy from my country who was living in the same state. We had met on our trip to US and we used to write each other every two weeks. I gain a lot of weight during my stay, so I guess he was a bit dissapointed when he came to the prom. He just wrote me a couple of letters after. But a month ago (20 years later) I had a friend request from him in facebook. I accepted it. We were kids back then and he has gain as much weight and has lost a lot of hair, and my sister has made fun of our prom picture for years, so he kinds of deserves to be forgotten.

My best (guy) friend and I went to to our senior prom together. Neither of us were dating anyone and neither of us really wanted to deal with the drama of taking a date to prom. We've been best friends since we were 6 years old, so we were able to go together and have a great, stress-free, drama-free time. I loved my senior prom!

I went to Junior and Senior prom with my now husband. We started dating in November of Junior year and have been together ever since! We had a lot of fun at both proms, decent food and good dancing :)

I went with friends both times, partly because I was single at the time, and partly because junior prom my crush was going out with someone else and senior prom I didn't really like anyone. I didn't want to have a date just for the sake of having one. So me and a bunch of my single friends went together. We had a blast! :)

Technically not prom, but I went solo. I mean, I shared a limo with a group of friends, one of which didn't have a date, another took her cousin, so it's not like I was a total outcast in high school, really.

My high school sweetheart. It was a dream date. We dated throughout high school. Does anybody remember the show "Wonder Years?" Well, my high school sweetheart was my Kevin Arnold, and to him, I think I was his Winnie Cooper. Like them, we didn't end up together, but he will always have a place in my heart.

My boyfriend lived in a different state (he moved before prom and came back after so I think he just really didn't want to go) so I asked one of my friends. We had a great time except the restaurant we went to sucked and we stopped at wendy's before prom so we could actually eat. My date was just a friend while all my friends were with someone they actually liked yet we had the most fun. I guess people are shy to dance around their SO?

nancita, that's a cute story. there's no prom stuff in my country, the only kind of party that we have is when we graduate out of high school, but I I couldn't go to mine because I was in the hospital.

I kind of suspect my mom still wishes I was still dating my junior prom date! But we broke up the following school year. I went to my senior prom with a guy who was a year younger, and he didn't dance much, wouldn't kiss me (isn't a prom a much better place to have a first kiss than a Target parking lot? Seriously!), but he ended up coming to the same university as me and we're still good friends to this day, despite our short and awkward (and rebound in my case) relationship!

Well, I was searching for a prom date for months. Seriously, my parents were asking their coworkers if they had boys my age. I actually asked out a few boys in my class, but no one would go with me. Why? It's not that people didn't like me, it's that I was as unpopular as you can get and, well, the rest of the school year probably would have been terrible for any guy who agreed to go with me. So my friend Judez finally found me a single dude in her Hebrew class. He was hot, but he was also two years younger than me and was really into anime. It was a really awkward night. Looking back, I wish I had just taken one of my girlfriends. Sure, everyone would think I was gay, but ya know what, probably would have helped with the popularity thing. I would have had a miserable time anyway. I was fat, the music was awful and loud and I spent more time waiting in line for pictures than anything. Wow how I don't miss high school at all.

I decided to go to the prom on a whim, while talking to some friends about it the night before. I had no dress and no date, so I bought one on sale and decided to call up this guy I had a crush on who went to another school. I barely knew him; in fact, when I called him — around 3 pm the day of the prom — I had to say "Do you remember me?" Miraculously, he agreed to go, we hit it off, then ended up dating for the rest of high school. He was pretty much my first love and one of the most significant relationships of my life, really. I have never done anything that ballsy before or since.

While in the women's lounge at the stuffy country club, waiting for my friends to come out of the bathroom, I made the executive decision to lighten the mood by mooning them. My beautiful cap-sleeve, deep V-back dress with the form fitting skirt rippppped clean down the middle seam. After an "Oh shit!" moment of complete shock, we all ended up on the carpet, crying tears of laughter. The next thirty minutes or so were spent with my friends and waitstaff seeking out every safety pin in the country club and pinning me up. And the night went on. The following morning, I woke up to my date and his friends singing "Blue Moon", in it's painful entirety, on my answering machine. :true:

hahahahhahahaha this is hilarious!! i had two really great prom dates my sophomore and junior year, then senior year the guy was awful - we had been dating but broke up (amicably) a few weeks before prom, so the atmosphere was a little tense. then he tripped and fell running hurdles just a few days before prom and had a giant scab all the way up one side of his face - obviously ideal for those memorable prom photos. Worse, he decided to "pre-game" the night of prom without me. he came to get me very, very drunk while i was 100% sober. it was not exactly the most romantic evening ever.
