Queen Elizabeth Still Reigns Over Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
Queen Elizabeth II isn't ready to end her Diamond Jubilee celebrations just yet. The monarch and her husband, Prince Philip, are in Birmingham today as part of the Jubilee tour. One of her youngest subjects, Alicia O'Shea, who was born in this year of the Diamond Jubilee, came out decked in Union Jack colors to welcome the queen. While in Birmingham, the queen also officially named the city's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Following the four-day celebrations to mark her 60-year reign early last month, the queen hasn't slowed down. She's been visiting Great Britain as part of her Jubilee tour, while also taking part in Olympic preparations. Earlier this week, she welcomed the Olympic torch to Windsor Castle. Apparently, an unexpected streaker came along, too, with top British Olympians.
There were also reports this week that the palace is very upset that pictures of Prince William and Kate Middleton's honeymoon were published in Australia's Women's Day. A St. James Palace spokesperson said, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge considered their honeymoon to be a very private event after their hugely public wedding." But you saw no sign of distress today from the queen. Her pretty pink ensemble and smile were equally bright.
