Today's couple — Rebekah and Adam — emailed back and forth for two weeks before deciding to take things to real life. Never one to settle for ordinary, Rebekah suggested a scavenger hunt, and Adam was game. He put clues all over a Safeway in San Francisco, and Rebekah showed up with a prop magnifying glass made out of cardboard, paint, and plastic wrap. They found each, of course, on more than one level.
That was a Tuesday. Four days later, they professed their love; five months later, they married. They'll tell you more below.
TrèsSugar: How long have you been together?
Rebekah and Adam: Since Aug. 29, 2006. The day we met.
TS: What do you do for a living?
Rebekah: Optician at SEE Eyewear
Adam: Senior product manager for Electronic Arts
TS: How did you meet?
Rebekah: I like looking at the m4w ads on Craigslist since they are generally good for a laugh. I generally look for three words: "Jewish" since I'm Jewish, "Persian" because I am also Persian, and "glasses" because (surprise!) I like glasses. I found an ad whose title was "looking for partner for mischief" after I inputted "Jewish." I read the ad and instantly knew I hated the person. He poked fun at a number of my guilty pleasures like Sex and the City and Entertainment Weekly. He had to know how much I hated him. I wrote an email with the subject line "I want to punch you in the face."
Adam: At two in the morning!! She wrote that to me and I thought she must have been crazy. I did however decide to write back to her. She seemed like she had personality.
TS: Describe the other person in one word.
Adam on Rebekah: Not possible.
Rebekah on Adam: Impossible.
TS: What's the one thing you have most in common?
Rebekah: Our mutual love of music. Adam plays the piano, guitar, and mandolin.
Adam: And Rebekah sings. We have a band named Ms.Mister with another gentleman. We both like getting home and writing songs or just figuring a favorite tune to learn.
Rebekah: Recently we wrote and recorded a song about one of our favorite things: Oliver, our dog.
Adam: The song has a sad bit of irony to it too. Oliver HATES when we play music live. Yet we opted to write a song about him.
Rebekah: He'll deal.
TS: What's the one way you differ the most?
Adam: Anatomically? Is that a trick question?
