Study: Omitting Cell Phone Users May Affect Polls People with only cell phones may differ enough from those with landline telephones that excluding the growing population of cell-only users from public opinion polls may slightly skew the results, a study has concluded. The finding, in a report this week by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center, may increase pressure on polling organizations to include people who use only cell phones in their surveys.

This was a factor in 04 and I was wondering if they ever did anything to change the way they do these polls... they had 4 years to fix this and they didnt! wtf! Oh well, the only poll that matters is the one on Nov 4th.

In our NY office, I would say almost none of our employees have home phone numbers. With cell phones you get free long distance, and you save a ton of money by not having the extra line.

None of my friends have land lines, what's the point? And BTW nearly all of my friends are voting for Obama.

Me too. We were just talking about this at work...it especially seems common among 20-somethings who are/were in college so they moved a lot and didn't want to be changing land lines all the time and that demographic tends to lean to the left. I really bet it is enough to skew the polls.

I have the opposite problem! Every call to my cell is legit, but every single call I get on my landline is a telemarketer.

No, no, no, do not call my cell phone with your innane polling questions! Leave me alone!!! I have enough trouble with random mortgage places constantly calling and asking for some person I have never heard of. I just want to be left in peace! Whew, feels good to get that off my chest.

One more reason I think Obama will win, and handily. Cell phone only-users are more likely to be younger and more likely to vote for Obama. Is a 49 state electoral blowout too much to ask?

I'm under 30 and have never had a land line, only a cell phone, not even now when I own my own home.
