Teen Mom Cuddling PSA Video

Is Cuddling-Over-Sex an Effective Message?

In this new PSA with the stars of Teen Mom, the girls try to warn teens about the dangers of sex by saying they should have just cuddled with their baby daddies instead of doing the deed. By focusing on cuddling as a viable way to prevent teen-sex consequences, this video takes a roundabout approach to talking about safe sex, STDs, and pregnancy prevention. Maybe the idea is that these girls just wanted intimacy with their boyfriends over the physical act of intercourse, but the video isn't quite clear with its message. Watch the video below and tell us what you think about the PSA.

"There are actually girls out there getting pregnant just to try to get on these shows." That's a VERY rare occurrence and studies show that this show actually DISCOURAGES teens from getting pregnant. 3 of the Teen Mom's were on Dr. Oz the other day and they discussed it. I've watched the show since Day 1 and I completely disagree about it being glamorized. The show is a constant reminder of why I use birth control 100% of the time.

I am in my 30s and have been sexually active since I was 15. I needed more than a cuddle back then and I need more than a cuddle now. Cuddling is for after sex! The push should be for condoms not cuddling. Both begin with C maybe someone's getting their words confused?!!!

Cuddling tends to lead to sexing. At least for me.

The problem with shows like Teen Mom is that whether they intend to or not, they glamorize the situation. There are actually girls out there getting pregnant just to try to get on these shows. Also, yes, it's hard, but can you imagine how these girls' children will feel when they're older watching their moms say that they were mistakes?

I agree with Natalie. It seems like there is still a Disney approach when talking to teens about sex -- like "cuddle" or "wait for marriage",etc...There needs to be logical, realistic messages out there.

They're kind-of missing the point. I had a lot of sex as a teen (14-18). I had a boyfriend and were very energetic highschoolers! I've never been pregnant, thanks to a lovely thing called contraceptives. Yes, they're not 100% effective, but they are pretty damn effective. If someone told me to cuddle, I would tell them to go ahead and cuddle, while I enjoy my sex. When will Americans understand that teens have sex, plenty of it; and encouraging contraceptives is really the only thing they can do about teen pregnancy?

Maybe it has to do with the speakers.
