Tracy Morgan Apologizes For Homophobic Rant

Tracy Morgan Apologizes For Homophobic Rant — Do You Forgive Him?

Longtime Tracy Morgan fan Kevin Rogers was severely disappointed by what he heard last Friday at the comedian's show, and took to Facebook to share what happened. Kevin, who is gay, says he expected some good-humored gay jokes at some point, but there was nothing funny about the homophobic turn Tracy's show took. Kevin wrote on Facebook:

He mentioned that gay was something kids learn from the media and programming, and that bullied kids should just bust some a*s and beat those other little f*ckers that bully them, not whine about it. He said if his son . . . was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death.

After news of the antigay rant spread, the 30 Rock star and former SNL cast member apologized. In a statement released today, Tracy said: "I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

Can you get over his "jokes," or have you soured to Tracy forever?

I'm tired of public apologizes as well because people only do it to protect their image. I would respect a person a lot more if they just said they didn't agree with something and called it a day. I don't know when this crap about accepting anything and everything started but it's getting on my nerves. I believe in respectfully disagreeing with things but he definitely crossed the line when he made a mockery of it. I give Tracy 2 months to say something else crazy because that's what he does and that's who he is. The man is nuts. He's like the black Charlie Sheen, only not as energetic. I think every on 30 Rock knows that if they had to fire him the show wouldn't be as funny anymore.

I’m cool with being politically correct if it means I don’t encourage ‘comedians’ who joke about killing their children if they don’t conform.

Its shocking to hear because he has always seemed like such a sweet guy. Tina Fey even said it was out of character. I hate what he said but I can't bring myself to write him off as a monster, forever. How will we know if he is truly sorry?

I think what he said was absolutely vile and a phony apology does not make everything ok. To make light of bullying, when it is such a huge problem in this country, is ignorant. Homophobia is fueled by being uneducated and insecure. You can crank out shitty movies lik Cop Out, but you are terrfied of gays??? Get over yourself Mr. Morgan, After this I don't think you need to worry about too many people, gay or straight, approaching you. You are disgusting.

Not only was his rant homophobic, it was also misogynisitc, which people seem to be overlooking. He's given a apology for the homophobic side of his rant, so where's the apology for his misogyny? And I also think that the only reason for his apology is because his image is taking a hit because of his rant. It's not genuine, it's a PR move.

well its kind of disturbing but no way i would stop enjoying him on 30-rock. actions speak loader than words, anyways. obviously there was nothing humourous in his rant but wouldn't it be worse if he donated to some anti-gay marriage charity? or actually WAS physically violent to a gay person? if anything i am more shocked that he 'joked' about stabbing his own child but he's not really going to do it, right?

If this isn’t somewhere in your heart, how could it possibly make it out of your mouth? It wasn’t a wrong word slipping by, or one convoluted sentence. This has soured me on Morgan. It doesn’t ruin 30 Rock for me, but it does have me rethinking some things.

It's so interesting how (usually white) people assume that because someone is part of what we consider a minority or marginalized group, they should understand the plight of all other minority or marginalized groups. It would be super awesome if it worked that way, but it doesn't! Tracy Morgan has always been more crazy than funny, and this rant is no exception. Doesn't help that I'm extremely tired of the culture of public apologies. That said, I'll still be watching 30 Rock.

If he didn't have a history of making anti-gay statements, I would be more apt to accept his apology. Considering he has a history of making public his opinions about homosexuality, he can take his apology and shove it.

Bogus! It's so easy to rant and rave and THEN apologize! I'm a heterosexual woman and find this outrageous. His so-called apology is not accepted. So many minorities have had to overcome a tremendous amount of heartache. Does he not believe he hasn't? Pot kettle.
