What Are You Giving Your Dad This Year?

Is it just me or does shopping for Dad seem nearly impossible sometimes? Tools and ties just don’t cut it anymore and DVDs and CDs get tiresome year after year. Plus even if he doesn’t say so, I think Dad enjoys a meaningful and well-thought-out gift just as much as Mom does. So for those of you who’ve planned ahead, please share with the rest of us: What are you getting your dad for Father’s Day this year?

For Christmas I got my dad a remote control airplane, to appeal to his inner child. Well, he loved it, but everytime he flies it, the battery dies once he's got the hang of it. So, it was super easy to buy him a few replacement battery packs, so he can always have 2 charged up and ready to go.

Ugh, I have no clue yet! My father is such a pain about Father's Day...and his birthday...and Christmas! When I ask what he wants, he always says "I have everything I need, you don't need to buy me a thing". Drives me nuts! Sometimes I come up with creative ideas, but nothing's striking me this year...

For me the same as Lovely_1. Just a barbeque/dinner at my house with my two sisters and their hubbies. My dad is impossible to buy for anyway, and I think he would rather just spend some time with me and my sisters.

A laptop pillow. He sits in his recliner for hours with his laptop on his lap, so I'm getting him one of those pillows so he doesn't burn up while he's using it.

I'm sorry for your loss yadiet. I usually cook dinner for my dad. He is kind of embarrassed/awkward about me getting him anything expensive.

My dad's house was completely lost last year in a fire, along with a display of foreign currency he collected while traveling with his work when I was a teenager. So my mom and I are taking some of the money we had (my parents are divorced and she had some of the currency as well) and are making him a new display with it. He'll probably think it's hokey...he's not the best gift recipient, but I think it's a nice gesture and a great idea from my mom.

My dad recently came over to visit me for the first time in London and I took him out to a really nice (and expensive) meal in York, which he loved. We took lots of photos so I'm making a Snapfish photo album for him, with captions, and sending it back to him in the States so he'll always be able to remember all the amazing things he saw and the places we traveled to!

I got him a rack to hold all the long-handled tools he has (rakes, shovels, etc). My Dad loves puttering around the yard. Next year I might get him a branding iron for when he bar-b-ques.

I've tried getting him things he wants but he doesn't end up using it so I'm getting him a very sweet and thoughtful father's day card along with a Home Depot or Lowe's gift card. I know he can use that anytime and get whatever he wants.

My dad and I connect through sports (he even coached me as a child in softball and we watch college football together). I always try to get him tickets to sporting events. As a matter of fact, I outdid myself 2 years ago when the Detroit Tigers made the World Series and I bought him tickets! This year, I got him a pass to the Tiger Woods Golf Clinic + a 1 day pass to the Buick Open in Michigan (Golf is his favorite sport to play)...he's always wanted to go to the Buick and has always wanted to see Tiger play in person.
