8 Reasons Summer Is the Best Time to Rekindle Stale Relationships
14 of the Sexiest TV Shows You Can Stream on Netflix in July
This Bride Was Dreading Rain at Her Wedding, but It Ended Up Being One of the Highlights

What Is Your Favorite Lighten Up Moment?

There is no shortage of political fodder for comedians in 2008. The campaign season took off with Stephen Colbert's Doritos-sponsored run for president. When his presidential dreams were broken into shards of bottom-of-the-bag chips, we turned to the feisty Democratic primary. The fightin' socialists!

During the 500 or so debates, our gossip-mongering eyes studied Hillary's glances to Barack, at one turn with the adoration of a schoolgirl and another with a readiness to bite into his soul. The love-hate relationship found its way into a spoof of the Sarah Silverman-Matt Damon video in "I'm F*cking Obama".

A quiet Summer brought a folksy Fall when Sarah Palin, literally, took the stage. Her interview with Katie Couric was spoofed on SNL; her life turned into a faux Disney movie complete with a real-life trailer; and her quote about "real America" was refuted in Jon Stewart's defense of fake America. But 18 days before the election, John McCain and Barack Obama got together and roasted each other, acknowledging in person the campaign headlines swarming above.

So those are our favorite Lighten Ups — what's yours? Haven't got one? Fear not because we'll be looking back at the biggest and bestest news from 2008 right into 2009.

I loved the roast. It was nice to see them all letting their hair to speak. Even Hillary was there...and everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves.

THIS one! Just now, when I was musing on Blagojevich's hair and it made me remember Jimmy Johnson, former Dallas Cowboys coach....(hairspray hair flapped beautifully in the wind, as I recall). This photo made me smile! Go on, now, SMILE WITH JIMMY!

The defense of fake America was the best. I watched it so many times and it was still hilarious every time.

The Tina Fey word for word spoof was absolutely brilliant. No question about it. But did you actually see the roast? I was an Obama supporter. But I really gained an admiration for McCain after watching it, and rewatching it. He is a very funny good natured man, with a deadly comic delivery talent.

wow. Caterpillar, what does make you laugh if none of these are funny? I am partial to the word-for-word Tina Fey interview, the roast was good, Stephen COlbert running and making problems for both Obama and beating Biden was great too.

Oh God, where was I for "I'm fucking Obama"? That was hilarious, following that John Stewart defending fake America was great because he actually looked pissed off.

Sorry, I never saw any of the ones above but the roast so I went with that. I think I missed all of the comedy of the political years.
