Where Do You Stand? Bringing Condoms Just in Case

Being prepared for the unexpected is always key, but in the dating game, being equipped (so to speak) could come across a wee bit presumptuous. A man who's a proponent of safe sex wins major points in my book, but I don't know how I'd feel if things got heated on a first or second date and he whipped out a condom, assuming he was going to get lucky. Of course it's better to be safe than sorry, but tell me where you stand on carrying condoms just in case.

I keep one in my wallet even though I'm in a committed relationship and use BC. The condom is pretty old though so I'd be more inclined to use it for a prank instead of in the sack. My partner usually has one on hand though, just in case I miss a pill or one of his mates picks up and doesn't have one.

If you're allergic to latex, you hate to carry.

It's good to be prepared. If he's a disrespectful horndog expecting sex, it will show in his personality and behavior in other ways. Candace, I was wondering the same thing, reading these comments! Being in a wallet causes a condom to deteoriate and develop microscopic tears from extreme heat, cold, bending, friction, pressure, etc. I hope my fellow sugar readers aren't putting ther wallet condoms through any harsh conditions and that they replace condoms regularly. :/

SingleGIRL that is a good way to put it! favours. I don't have one because I am in a committed relationship and I am on BCP and he has some at his place all the time. And we end up over there all the time anyways, I do keep some at mine too. So we are covered on all our basis. In terms of single, sometimes I did just in case like if I was going on a date with teh guy for I really liked and thought the night might be 'it'. But I don't normally carry it to the bar or anything.. my Chanel wallet doesn't have room for it and look pretty/without obvious condom ring hehe. And my purse is a mess..good luck finding anything in there!

I always have some in my apartment, but not in my purse. My feeling is that the host or hostess should supply the, ahem, party favors. So if we wind up at his place he better damn well have condoms. Otherwise I'm leaving and there will be no loving.

Hmmm, it depends on the situation. If it's some random guy (which will prob. never happen with me...but just saying) or if it's early on in the relationship and he whips it out and just assumes that's where things are going, I would prob. get pissed. If the random guy didn't have one, I would assume he wasn't assuming something would happen which would be good. But if he then tried to do something without a condom, I would get pissed and never talk to him again...and wash myself very throughly! ;-) :-P If it's a guy I've been with for a while, then yeah he better have one. Being prepared and responsible is good.

Since so many people are saying they keep them in their wallets.. I'm just wondering if you've ever read the little paper instructions thing? It says never to keep it in your wallet.. they become ineffective.. same with purses or cars or anywhere with extreme heat.. Anyway, I wouldn't bring one out because I would assume if thats going to happen it'll probably be at his house, where he can store them safely.

I wouldn't know what kind to get if i were to keep some on hand! (diff. sizes, types, etc) I figure, since it's going ON him, he should be the one getting them. not a set in stone rule, but in general, yeah.

Have we learned nothing from the Boy Scouts? Always be prepared. Simple as that, I always have two just in case one breaks.

Just to add that my comment is based on my own situation, the situation described by many above is extremely unlikely to happen to me. I've not had sex with anyone for over 3 years and counting everyday. Perhaps kinda of depressing for others, sorry to upset you.

Don't want the guy to think of me as a "slut" so if he really wants it. He needs to work for it. (i.e. go run to the hotel lobby shop or drive to the nearest 7-eleven for it) thanks but I can control myself.

No condom is a deal breaker when I was casually dating if a guy didn't have a condom we DIDN'T have sex. It was just one technique of many for me to remain selective. :)

I think it's just smart to be prepared. It's kind of like always keeping change in your purse....

Men and women should keep condoms in their wallet/purse just in case shit happens. You will never ever know what might happen, my mom has been telling me that for a while
MyOwnRules MyOwnRules 8 years
For me, it would depend on the situation. If a guy was a cad about it, like if he made a crass and/or suggestive comment about having them or made some referral like that, then it'd be a HUGE turn-off and definatly a deal breaker. But if he just pulled one out during the deed, then it'd be a turn-on because obviously he respects himself (and me!) enough to be prepared and to be concerned about our safety and health.

I'd say its a definite do! But since I'm not one for one night stands I only bring a condom with me if I'm going to see the guy I'm dating and I pretty much know we'll have sex. But I say its the year 2009 and you're the only one you can trust when it comes to your health and safety. So be smart.

When things are starting to heat up with a new guy I'm dating, I'll usually keep one with me just in case.

it's never a bad idea. most guys I've dated do carry one just in case, but none of them are necessarily promiscuous. plus, if it advances that far, it'd have to be pretty heated to get out the condom. also, wouldn't you be at one or the other's house? people usually keep condoms at the house.

but when it comes to my boyfriend, if we need them for some reason (like antibiotics i'm taking is making my pill ineffective for instance), he is the guy who is in charge. i'm in charge of BC, he is in charge of those. like lovely, we have some in the bedside table for times we may need them
