Whoa! McCain Staffer Suspended Over Obama Mash-Up?

I actually watched this with my mouth open. The content of this, let's call it an editorial video, was strong enough to get the McCain staffer behind its circulation, suspended. Let's just say Malcolm X and the N-word are involved. Take a look for yourself.

I'm torn. I can't stop watching it. It's powerful to say the least. I can't decide how I feel about it. Each time through I change my mind.

What do you think? Is circulating a video like this a suspendable offense?

How can it be "smear tactics" if it is true?? Particularly if it is recent?? /Painfully frustrated with selective awareness. //Especially if it's one-sided.

Just because the person making the video is a staffer doesn't change the way Republican campaigner campaign - maybe not McCain himself - but I'm talking Carl Rove and Co. The Republican party is known by notorious, yet effective campaign tactics - regardless of who signed off on it.
lilkimbo lilkimbo 9 years
I'm talking about the people who made the video, who are not connected to the campaign in any way. The person who circulated it was a low-level staffer, but he did not make it.

Exactly, indie. That's the point I'm trying to make. Some people (you not included) have commented that this is McCain's campaign or the GOP trying to smear Obama when it clearly had no connection with either.

"Seriously, does anyone have any evidence of this video being made by someone officially connected with the GOP?" If they were the least bit OFFICIAL, they wouldn't have been suspended, would they?

Seriously, does anyone have any evidence of this video being made by someone officially connected with the GOP? Because if they do, I missed it. And the person who passed it around was reprimanded for his actions. This clearly was not something put out by the party or by McCain.

The video was stupid and horribly made, a cheap shot by the gop smear machine.

I'm not going too heavily into this, but the McCain staffer got what he deserved. I know freedom of speech was briefly mentioned above, the man who made this has the freedom to do as he pleases, but the freedom of speech does not protect his job, especially when his "speech" can hurt his employer. Lilkimbo, I couldn't agree more with your above post. This is part of the GOP, this is an individual. The real presidential race (i.e. between the Gop and the Dems) has really yet to begin. There's no reason for McCain to really take too much time with the Dems now as Hillary and Obama are more focused on themselves. Additionally, I don't know if anyone has seen this, but it seems that 1 in 5 Dems are likely to vote for McCain if their Candidate doesn't win the nom.

I think you're gonna see attack ads from both sides, no matter how clean its been up to this point. Attack ads are an unfortunate fact of life... ... but they could at least be persuasive! and well made! I didn't agree with the swift boat people but at least they made a decent ad! :)

It's great that this is making the rounds now, though... for a couple of reasons: this means the McCain campaign fears a true match up against Obama, it shows what issues the McCain campaign WILL be using, and if they continue to do this, this early on, it will simply stop being so shocking, and have people asking, "Is this all?" As for the Republican campaign machine - let the games begin, they smell blood and they will surly drain it all (not aimed at citizen who are republicans, but their campaign masterminds, who are bad - but darn good) I think this video is ridiculous and don't think it will change anyone's mind. If people already thought negatively about Obama, they will continue to, if they didn't, they won't. But, this is in no way part of the "Republican campaign machine." And, this is not a "tactic" being used my McCain. The article CLEARLY states that this was simply a staffer, and I read somewhere else (The Post, I believe) that this was a low-level staffer. Hello, McCain suspended the person who made this video. I think it's completely inaccurate to say that this is the kind of campaign McCain wants to run and I think it's an attempt to smear McCain's characters. McCain has defended Obama in relation to Jeremiah Wright. I just think that to a lot of people, it "sounds good" to say that the McCain campaign will be using these tactics, when the video clearly was not officially put out by McCain. I have seen a lot of things put out by Obama supporters that are VERY negative toward Hillary Clinton, but I don't equate those things with the Obama campaign. Oh, and Love Angelina, I agree. I mean, he should have the legal right to put out this video, but the campaign also has the legal right to fire him.

"I certainly hope no one of voting age is gullible enough to take it seriously." I'm not anywhere near that optimistic... Something not many have touched on is if we take Wright's comments for their substance, not his delivery or his words, but his actual complaints - wouldn't we say a lot of Americans actually agree to a certain extent. He is arguing against the US use of nuclear weapons, claiming that our own bad policies have made us a target, and arguing that there such a thing as "white privilege." I think too many people look to these videos and automatically takes sides based on race- while I agree his delivery and his anger are not appropriate, I can't completely disagree with him on the foundation either... why can't we admit these things are wrong with American and we should take diplomatic steps to solve them instead of ignoring them and letting reasonable arguments turn into hate, anger, and disunity? As for the Republican campaign machine - let the games begin, they smell blood and they will surly drain it all (not aimed at citizen who are republicans, but their campaign masterminds, who are bad - but darn good)

This is racism, pure and simple. Until the Obama campaign, I thought racism was dead in our country. Boy was I naive. It makes me want to support Obama just because of the injustice. And even if someone made this for his college buddies, it is racist. Racist college buddies.

"Did anyone see Obama's speeches from yesterday and today? They are titled "The World Beyond Iraq", and "The Cost of the War"." jillness I read the both speeches. These quotes stood out to me from "The World Beyond Iraq": "When you have no overarching strategy, there is no clear definition of success. Success comes to be defined as the ability to maintain a flawed policy indefinitely. Here is the truth: fighting a war without end will not force the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future. And fighting in a war without end will not make the American people safer." "It may not dominate the evening news, but in Afghanistan, last year was the most deadly since 2001. Suicide attacks are up. Casualties are up. Corruption and drug trafficking are rampant. Neither the government nor the legal economy can meet the needs of the Afghan people."

You know, I'm starting to wonder just how selective the media is being in stories they're running: Obama's pastor made some very horrible comments, I admit, but apparently the Clinton's former pastor actually committed a jailable offense. You notice that isn't making CNN, though.

i am just so sick of this whole story, its been a whole week of this stuff. im a democrat/liberal but i listen to talk radio just to hear the ridiculous stuff that comes out of their mouths, and i heard about this video on the mike gallagher show this morining. and he was laughing up a storm about this one. i mean really what more do they want the guy to do, burn rev. wright at the stake for the whole world to see? sure seems like it to me.... and how about the unbelievable breach of obamas privacy tonight by the state department looking into his passport 3 DIFFERENT time over the past three months. i really think obama has these guys nervous that come november mccain might not make it to the white house.

stupid video but at least they picked a good song to go along with that witless, taken-out-of-context, junior-high produced crap! now i'm in the mood to see "Do The Right Thing" ("Mokie, bring me my pizza!" - Rosie Perez anyone???).

I voted that I'm not torn in the least. Yawn. If the creator of this video wanted us to take it seriously, why do they st-st-stutter everything? It was just annoying and cheesy to me.
I didn't mind the video but he did it under McCain's campaign and of course McCain can't have that on his campaign. It would have done more harm to McCain's then Obama's. So he was fired. Had he done on it on his own...he would have been well with in his rights. So he deserved to be fired.

"It makes me kinda bummed as a conservative, I mean Obama gets celebrities! Production value! Musical numbers! And this is what we're supposed to get?? It's bs. Makes me want to give up and go sit at the lunch table with the cool kids." :rotfl: Even I was surprised at the quality. It's almost like paying $12 to see Norbit(worst movie of all time). Oh, for shame!
