Woman Edits Spelling Mistakes in Emails

Sunday Confessional: I Edit Replies to Emails

This week's confessional comes from our anonymous Confession Booth group in the TrèsSugar Community. Feel free to weigh in with your advice in the comments.

If someone sends me an e-mail full of spelling mistakes, I edit it when I reply.

Let me ask, does everyone have a little red squiggly line that pops up under a mis-spelled word? Or is it just me?

It's not like I got [sic] through and pick out every single minute grammatical error, but if there's a squiggly red line, I right-click and choose the right spelling. No one has called me out on it yet... I doubt they ever will.

There's lots of great stuff going on in our community — join it, check it out, share your posts or advice in the great groups, and maybe we'll feature it here on TrèsSugar!

haha i personally don't think that's completely awful unless its a word like, pacific when they're trying to say specific or they pronounce a word wrong in real life and spell it wrong as well, that annoys me the most i have friend who does that.Anyway my grammar and punctuation is HORRIBLE. :(

Let's just hope that people are as accepting of your poor social skills as you are their occasional grammatical errors.

i find it passive aggressive and anal, as well, even though i also hate bad grammar and spelling...but the thing is, if a person knew they spelled something wrong, they probably would have changed it themselves...so when they reread their own email and it's corrected, they probably just think they wrote a flawless piece of correspondence to begin with you should probably stop doing that though, it would annoy people if they did realize

I worked at an ad agency where someone faxed their resume in for a copywriting postion. The production manager who first saw it noticed multiple errors, corrected it and faxed it back to the person applying. It was pretty funny! Needless to say, he wasn't hired.

I think that it's great that you improve your friends' and colleagues' grammar. Everyone needs to use good grammar.

Hahah I really want to do this a lot of times, never have, though.

Problems with spelling and grammar are huge pet peeves of mine. I even have my cousin hidden on facebook because I can't stand how she talks about her 'boi frend' or telling us all 'I got mi hrr did 2day. Adorbs!' It all pisses me off. However, I do NOT correct e-mails or letters that are sent to me. The only person I correct is my son.

Eh, everyone makes mistakes. I think spelling errors are pretty annoying. I wouldn't waste my time correcting someone elses email though. One of my good friends feels the need to constantly point out spelling mistakes or poor grammar. I admit it is pretty darn annoying but it doesn't make me want to end our friendship. He's a proof reader so I cut him some slack. ;)

This wouldn't be a high priority of mine. I have far more productive things to do with my life. Please excuse me while I go eat cake and have great sex.

Typos and spelling erros in a resume or cover letter = big mistake. Typos and spelling errors in a quick email = who gives an eff? Oh, right you. If someone emailed me back with corrections I'd cease communication - email and otherwise !!

:oy: I'm a bit of a spelling and grammar freak myself but come on. Unless these people were talkin lyk dis!!1, taking the time to edit other people's e-mails actually makes you look like the dumb one. I just cringe in private and move on.

I'm all for it. I can't stand poor spelling and grammar. I have no complacency for myself, and English is not my first language. I think what you're doing is hilarious, and the only reason why I wouldn't do it is that I'd be afraid to pass for a total bitch. But kudos if you don't mind!

I don't think you're alone on this. My English professor admitted that he does the same thing with emails and letters. He said when he was in college he used to send letters back to his friends with corrections made. I'm not the goodest spella in tha world so i kant complane aboot others. Sorry. ha

errors drive me crazy but i've learned self-control and realized that EVERYONE makes mistakes and that it really isn't all that important. okay, so i don't totally believe this...but i've learned to resist the temptation to correct others unless they ask me to proof something specifically.

I have low threshold of pain (LOL) for spelling and grammar errors--only when they're massive amount of them in one e-mail/post/etc making them really hard to read--but I won't be fixing them, I'd just not read the whole thing. I do focus and edit my own stuffs most of the time. Even then, I do make my mistakes. :p

lol.. no one is going to scroll down to reread something they've already sent, but yeah, i think its totally over the top. Kind of amusing though, if i did notice you doing it to me, id avoid you like the plague. I can't stand obnoxious people. I had a coworker who would go to peoples personal blogs and spell check them just so he could point out spelling/grammar errors. The funniest part is he could hardly patch together an email and often came out looking really poorly in front of the higher ups... funny!

You should keep at it if it makes you feel better. I can't imagine most people would notice or care. genesis - I don't see any spelling mistakes just grammatical ones. What am I missing?
