Yay or Nay? Would You Wear This?

I'm all for strong political views, but slap it on a t-shirt and I'm asking: Is a shirt slogan the most effective soapbox?

I completely agree with MandyJoBo. I belonged to my college's College Democrats and I still have (and wear!) my "I'll hug your elephant if you KISS MY ASS" shirt!!! I love it!

I always wanted to make up shirts with Susan B. Anthony or Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Alice Paul on them and the line "Vote for Her!" on it. I hate hearing that women aren't voting when we have had the vote for less than 100 years.

I like this shirt and think it's funny.

I don't really think that is a great barometer for this particular debate. Definitely not when the mission of the site is to have the most offensive and objectionable products on the market!

im all for it as a matter of fact i might get that particular one...

Yay; I would wear a political tee around the election. I think it makes a conversation starter. Good, if another person with the same view wants to talk. Bad, if you get someone that wants to pick a verbal argument however that is sort-of fun if your into debating; I think having some debates makes your views stronger. I love that tee! Too funny!

I would wear it, but i think the statement made on the shirt is stupid. I blame all the people that voted for bush, not the ones that didn't vote against him!

Oops! I forgot to mention, I think it was on either urbanoutfitters' website or shopkitson/intuition, but they had a really cute shirt that said 'Obama for yo mama!' ^___^

I think that a T-shirt is absolutely an appropriate place to state your political views. Especially if you're me and super-shy(but I still have strong opinions), it can be easy to start a conversation or a debate that way. As long as the shirt is not saying anything truly racist/discriminatory, there's nothing wrong with that. And I'm pretty conservative, so...

I like political t-shirts, both funny and the serious ones when it's serious about something we tend to bury our heads in the sand about.

They're fun. We (my nephews and I) got our political t-shirts from last election. They haven't come up with any cleaver one yet but they just fun. but you've always gotta watch out for someone who's gonna sucker-punch you for wearing your views on your chest.

Yay! But it depends on the slogan. I have a "Stewart Colbert '08" T-Shirt and "Kucinich Speaks For Me" with a picture of an Alien on it.

Haha, it's a funny shirt! I love t-shirts, political ones sister and I both have a couple.

I agree...I think the shirt is hilarious and I would SO wear it! :rotfl: but then again, I feel strongly about Bush...

How about giving a third answer? Some of these poll questions from CitizenSugar are so black and white that I don't even bother answering. There's always grey areas. For example, I wouldn't wear this shirt, it's not my style and I would never want George Bush's face on my chest. But I don't think it's tacky. It wouldn't bother me at all if I saw someone else wearing it. So how about answer C. No, I wouldn't wear it. But to each his own.

I don't think it's about the t-shirt being a soapbox. People just like to express their selves; they like to personalize their world. It's more a "Hi, I'm me and I am a [dem/rep]." It's also a cheap way to do so. People are generally proud of their beliefs. I believe being a democrat makes me a good person, while Republicans may believe it makes them a good American. Either way, people love to be individuals while at the same time finding others that are like them. I don't wear them because they're typically un-stylish, but I do have some I wear under other shirts. I would wear one at a political rally.

"Tacky, tacky, tacky" is right. Those kinds of shirts are so juvenile. I mean, who would take a t-shirt (or the wearer) seriously?

That site has probably the tackiest shirts ever. They have a few nice ones at No Star Clothing and Urban Outfitters. I've also seen some witty ones just by using Google.

It all depends on the slogan -- if it's witty or not. The example you have is really lame, but I've seen some cool ones. Even though I'm in Hillary's camp, I really like the "Barack 'n' roll!" shirts.
