Are You Popular? 1947 Guide to Popularity

Flashback: 1947 Guide to Popularity

In 1947, achieving social acceptance was top priority. But if popularity involved stepping into Pleasantville and conforming to the robotic freakshow below, then I'd rather hang out with that "weirdo" who spends her time in parked cars with boys night after night. At least that girl gets to have her fun and keep Mom's brownies to herself too. On the flip side, Little Miss Popularity has to bring her date home and "repay" him by serving up some dessert. Mmm-hmm. With a little "whipped cream" on top perhaps? Face it: Carolyn's a closet freak. As the narrator says, everyone likes her because she "seems as interested in girls as in boys." Oh, and she also keeps a nifty desk calendar.

The acting and dialogue was classic 40's fluff, hilarious. But I do agree with wiciltd. People still chase after social acceptance today. The 21st century version of that clip would have had Wally wearing baggy clothes and speaking street lingo, while Carolyn would have made a note of the date in her PDA, and spoke like a valley girl. I'm sure in 50 years people will be laughing at us too.

I don't think there was much to make fun of.. You could update that and i would fit perfectly into our society now.. Social Acceptance is still a huge thing.. And a lot of what was said was true.. Sure now a days there would be more T&A and sexual innuendo's.. but the premise is still the same
