Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan, Out Oct. 3
Jennifer Egan won a Pulitzer Prize for her last novel, the spectacular A Visit From the Goon Squad, and she returns with Manhattan Beach, a novel that is completely different in every way. It opens during the Depression, as 12-year-old Anna Kerrigan goes with her father to visit a business associate, Dexter Styles. Then we fast forward to World War II, when Anna is working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard after her father has mysteriously disappeared. Her path crosses with Dexter Styles once again — does he hold the key to her father's disappearance?
