The Heartbreaking Story Behind This Abandoned Dog Found in an Airport Bathroom
A 3-month-old puppy was recently rescued from the airport bathroom where it was abandoned. At the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, the puppy was found inside a bag, alongside a chilling note from the owner explaining the events leading up to the dog's abandonment.
In the handwritten note, the owner said that she was fleeing an abusive relationship and did not have enough money to pay the additional pet fare. That being said, she did not want to leave the dog with her ex-boyfriend, given that he had hurt the dog in the past. Read her heartbreaking note in its entirety, below.
"Hi! I'm Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn't afford to get me on the flight. She didn't want to leave me with all her heart but she has no other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much. Please love and take care of him."
According to The Washington Post, airport staff members found Chewy shortly after he was abandoned and turned him over to a local rescue group. Connor and Millie's Dog Rescue has since posted a picture of Chewy, along with a picture of the note.
Fortunately, it seems the rescue group is hoping to either reunite Chewy with his owner or find him a suitable new home. In a Facebook comment, the group said, "Chewy is safe, healthy and thriving. . . . We are hoping that Chewy's mom is in a safe place and will see Chewy's story so we can return Chewy to her if she so chooses and the circumstances are right for both of them." If they are unable to do so, they have received thousands of inquiries about adopting Chewy. The group added, "Please share in hopes that his mom sees this that she was brave to leave and that he will have a great life."
