The 12 Ages of Christmas: 2-Year-Olds

Pottery Barn Kids at ShopStyle

Instead of the 12 days of Christmas, we're celebrating the ages and the toys that go along with them. Keep an eye out for your age group as we tick along throughout the season!

On the second day of Christmas, yours truly gave to thee... a kitchen to whip up servings! Parents may think play kitchens are for lil gals only, but young men like to bake up cookies just as much as their female counterparts. Go for broke with a fancy shmancy modern set from Pottery Barn Kids ($580) or settle for a simple one that will surely provide just as much fun at a lower price. Add to the package with a grocery cart full of "food" and pots and pans. It won't be long until their tiny mitts have a place in mommy's real mixing bowl.

Check out what we suggest for the other ages of Christmas!

I just got my 2.5 year old son the Target Play Wonder wooden kitchen for Chanukah. It's sitting in my closet all assembled with a table cloth over it. I painted the pink parts light blue and made a new curtain for it. It's a really nice set. He's going to be so excited!!!!!

lol I didn't check it.. the one we have and most of the step 2 ones only have a few choking hazards anyway. I wasn't advocating buying things that are age inappropriate, just commenting that even when they are supposed to be age okay, you really still have to check them out and determine it agasint your childs development.

I think a lot of these kitchens are probably going to have choking hazards, the ones that come with little foods even if rated for 2 yos.. I'm pretty sure ours is 3+, but we just took out all of the dangerous/choking hazard products when she got it for her 1st birthday. She is nearing 2 and all of those things are waiting for a year or two at least.

Our daughter had a small kitchen from about 6 months and on -- and she adored it. Now when she cooks she makes "sssss" noises like things are sizzling in her pan, so cute! We bought her a bigger wooden kitchen for Christmas this year. I think she's going to love it!

We have the Step 2 Grand Walk in Kitchen for our daughter and she LOVES it. Plays inside it every day. As she gets older, she learns more and more. She likes to cook up hamburgers in the frying pan.. which is amusing since I've never once cooked a hamburger since she was born!
