The merging of technology and traditional games has yet to see its peak, as evidenced by the biggest trend of the year. All of your favorite games and characters are receiving a digital upgrade — integrating with the app world for extended playtime. Over at Hasbro, the Game of Life has been Zapped, where players can now create their own game pieces on the free app and then spin on the device for their turn as well. Later in the year, Monopoly will receive the Zapped treatment, and an included credit card that is swiped on the iPad will serve as the payment method of choice.
Barbie is also going the app way with its Fashionista line. Each doll will come with a ring that unlocks free content on their app. Once unlocked, girls can change Barbie's clothes, restyle her hair, shorten her hems, and more!
Younger kids' board games will also get the app treatment with Dr. Seuss App Play Games. The players will match letters and numbers to those appearing on the app for more playtime fun!
