Jump Down the Rabbit Hole For a Mad Hatter Tea Party Baby Shower

Jun 2 2014 - 11:02am

What a journey A & K Lolly Buffet [1] took guests on for this Mad Hatter-themed baby shower! The three sisters based in Western Sydney, Australia, took guests on a wild ride that had them feeling like they were really having tea with the Mad Hatter at one mom-to-be's baby shower.

"Jessie's partner, Marc, wanted to surprise her with an extraordinary lolly [dessert] buffet," Astra told us. "He mentioned that Jessie likes Alice in Wonderland and would appreciate something 'off-center.' Alice in Wonderland has, in itself, a very quirky and whimsical theme. It is very inspiring! We based our table concept and designs from the story, characters, and quotes from the book. We challenged ourselves to bring to life the world of Alice in Wonderland on the dessert table."

And bring it to life they did! Let loose and take a dive down this rabbit hole to see all of the unbelievable details the A & K ladies brought to life at this shower — as well as the guest of honor's reaction to seeing it all!

Quirky Signs

There's nothing subtle about Alice in Wonderland, and A & K Lolly Buffet took that to heart when designing the party. Cute signs helped guide the guests to the party.

Curiouser & Curiouser Buntings

"The Curiouser and Curiouser buntings were so much fun to do," according to Astra. "Luckily we have a copy of the Alice in Wonderland book with illustrations. We photo scanned some of the interesting pages then we hand painted the red letters for a rustic quirky effect."

The Mad Hatter's Hat

"The Mad Hatter's Hat, the personalized Thank You message designed as a page of a book, the personalized playing cards, and the Curiouser buntings, which we all designed ourselves."

A "Wow-Worthy" Dessert Buffet

"We won't forget the reaction of the guests when they saw the dessert buffet," Astra told us. "It added the 'wow' factor to the party and made the guests feel like they actually went down the 'Rabbit Hole' and had tea with the Mad Hatter. Another special moment was when Marc [the client] saw the dessert table and told us that we nailed the brief and exceeded his expectations!"

Too-Cute-to-Eat Cookies

Bringing the theme to life were incredibly detailed cookies like the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter's hat created by Sweet Treats by Martie [7].

Queen of Hearts Marshmallows

The candy and treats on the dessert table all came directly from the text of Lewis Carroll's book, like these "Queen of Hearts" marshmallows. . . .

Rustic Risers and Hidden Details

Astra and her team worked some rustic elements into the party's details, like some tree stump risers, stacked teacups, and woodland mushrooms.

A Perfectly Executed Theme

"Because it was a surprise baby shower, Jessie had no idea about the party theme and the dessert buffet. She was touched by the effort that Marc and their family put together for the party," Astra shared. The guest of honor later commented, "The amazing lolly buffet, it blew my mind. You helped make my day very special and something I’ll never forget. The theme was me on a table and I loved the quirky style and your attention to detail was second to none."
