The battle to normalize breastfeeding continues in 2016! Less than a week into the New Year, it's clear that we've got a long way to go in defending a woman's right to nurse her child in public — particularly on daytime television (ahem, Whoopi [1]).
On The Wendy Williams show earlier this week, actress Alyssa Milano [2] – a pro-breastfeeding advocate – came to verbal blows (starting at the 3:45 mark) with the talk show host after sharing some of her breastfeeding photos on Instagram [3].
"I don't need to see that," remarked Williams, who is known for speaking her mind about hot-button issues. The statement clearly shocked Milano, who was quick to point out the contradiction of being disturbed by nursing but completely comfortable with a "picture of Miley Cyrus [4] with two suspenders over her breasts."
Even Milano's attempts at explaining the biological purpose of breasts were lost on the daytime personality: "They're more sexual than a feeding thing," Williams said. "I'm a mom also, but breastfeeding is only a particular amount of time. The rest of your life, your breasts are sexual things . . . They're fun bags!"
Oof.
Watch the segment above and try not to squirm at just how ridiculous it is that this is still a conversation that is happening, nevermind among women.
