Babies Resulting From Online Dating Relationships

Match.com Takes Responsibility For the Birth of 1 Million Babies

Here's a post from our partners at BabyCenter! Every week, we bring you the best parenting and lifestyle stories from the experts at BabyCenter, including this post about online dating.

While reading this article I was astonished to find that Match.com has already been around for almost 20 years. CEO Sam Yagan claimed the company is responsible for the birth of over one million children, calling them 'Match babies'. Yagan's first 'life-changing' moment in his career with online dating came about nine months after creating OkCupid in 2003. He stated it came "when a user emailed a thank you note with a picture saying, 'I just had this OkBaby, thanks so much for introducing me to this guy'. I'm a math guy, I don't get emotional about things, but I remember actually pausing and saying, 'Holy s***, the stuff we do is really important."

After working with OkCupid and Match.com Yagan expresses his frustration in the stigma associated with online dating. He said people meeting online shouldn't be ashamed of how they met. Yagan told BuzzFeed Business, "They were making up stories: 'We met at the park,' or a conference."

To help 'destigmatize' online dating Match.com has announced they will be rewarding one 'Match baby' with a $50,000 scholarship. Not only will the 13-20 year old receive money for college, their parents will also get $5,000 to use on a vacation. Mr. Yagan stated, "I hope this (competition) will encourage kids all around the country to ask, 'How did you meet?'. People should know that about their parents and talk about their love story.' He predicts that eventually ten percent of all high school students will be 'Match babies'.

My son is the result of online venue for finding a date. Never went on a date "online" though lol. Not match.com that site was terrible. POF is much better and free.

My husband is a better person than I could ever imagine I would find in my immediate vicinity. I'm a believer in there are way more fish in the sea so you should look around and not settle.
