Penis Play: What Mothers of Sons Have to Look Forward To

Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what little girls are made of, while boys are supposedly contrived of snips and snails and puppy dog tails. So I should expect that along with those snips and snails there would be other icky things that come along with the muddy boy territory, right? The thought of my boy's voice cracking makes me blush even though he's only 6 months old. But what I am dreading in the near future? The discovery of his penis!

Sometime in the next few months, my lil guy is going to locate his "tail," as my daughter likes to call it, and find pure delight in the ability to toy with it during bath time and diaper changes. My mommy friends have warned me about the certain arrival of this moment. I presume when he is 13 years old, I will look back and laugh at how easy this rite of passage is for a wee guy compared to the adolescent years and beyond.

I disagree with everyone who says that as a mom it is easier to have girls. First of all, it will be my husbands job to talk to my son when he is older and confused about, um, stuff, so I don't even have to think about it, my sons penis (we called it a pee pee) is a good distraction when I am trying to change his diaper.

Anonymous, I'm probably more worried about my daughter entering puberty but at least I'll be personally familiar with the process! And yes - I am stereotyping boys along with the "snips and snails" but I mean it in a good fun way. My daughter is so dainty, cautious and feminine that I am looking forward to boy's life. He may turn out to hate a mess just as much as my girl but I hope we have some flat out "boy" moments as well.

When I was pregnant with my first child and they told me it was a boy I was nervous. What do I know about having a penis and boy "things". I think it can be daunting at first. When I got pregnant with my second I hoped so much that it was another boy as I had a handle on it. I think it's natural to worry a little about the unknown. So babysugar having a girl has the girl thing down, cut her some slack. All kids are different. My two boys are polar opposites. One likes dirt and all things dangerous, the others favorite color was pink for over 7 years. They've had moments of penis fondness but not nearly as severe as some of my other girlfriends with boys. You just never know.

This makes no sense to me. I lived with one of my sisters and she had 3 boys and 1 girl. Never had a problem with them playing with themselves when I changed their diapers. My other sister has 2 girls and one of them was constantly playing with her privates when you would change her diaper. I think it depends on the child, not based on the sex. Sounds like Kate Gosselin wrote this about "icky boys" [insert eye roll here]

I think as women its easier dealing with girl stuff since we've been there and back but boys have a bit of the unknown about them.

My Grandmother told my sis and I about buying her only son jeans with holes cut in the pockets because he wanted new jeans and a toy for Christmas. She got him both.
