The Amazing Transformation of a Boy With Asperger's Inspired by the Love From His Dog

Joey, a 14-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome when he was 7, has always had trouble showing affection or making any type of physical contact — until Roxy came along. Joey says of having autism, "[It is] kind of hard because people look at you differently. It was hard for me to make friends and be social."

He asked his mom, Amanda Granados, for a puppy to help him deal with his loneliness — so when she came across a rescue Pit Bull on Facebook, she decided to give it a shot. She took Joey to the shelter and was completely overjoyed to see that for Roxy and Joey, it was "love at first sight."

They brought Roxy home, and Granados says that within the first month, things changed with Joey regarding his previous struggles with physical connections, especially in terms of his love and affection toward her. She says, "He wants me to hug him, now he wants me to kiss him, he wants to lay in bed with me, he wants to hold my hand, and these again are things from Joey that I've never received. It's amazing to see how one animal can come into the home and open up his heart."

Even Joey has noticed the changes in himself and says, "Roxy just changed my life . . . I'm actually great with people because of Roxy." The pair are absolutely adorable together, and it's clear to see how obvious their affection for each other is.
