Car Wash Mother Gets One Year Probation

Niurka Ramirez, the Florida woman infamous for blasting her two-year-old with a car wash water hose, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery after charges of felony child abuse and negligence had been dropped. She was sentenced to one year probation and anger management and parenting classes. Outside the courtroom, the mother said she grew frustrated with her daughter who was throwing a tantrum and sprayed her to calm her down. She called the incident a mistake, just after saying she had done nothing wrong. Do you think the judge's ruling was fitting for the mother's actions with the high pressured hose?

its always a sad situation when the mother is unfit. i can not imagine myself ever doing that, the worst thing i would do would be yelling, so i do not identify with/ trust this woman,a nd am scared for the child's safety

I think this mother probably lost it and over reacted in the heat of the moment. She is getting the punishment she deserves, and I'm sure they will monitor her for a while. But to crucify because of what people THINK she's doing when no one's looking? Well, I can't say I agree with that.

wow. i don't think it has anything to with age...its the type of person you are. Apparently she's a bitch. my sons a little crazy sometimes and does things to really get under my skin but i would never hose him down especially with a car wash hose! I imagine that the kid was in pain! the kid was 2 years old..honestly shes a baby! its pathetic and it wasn't a mistake. she should go to jail and have her kid taken away for a while. mothers that abuse they're kids get off sometimes too easily. then we see them on the news for worse things. if she's doing these things in public just think of the things she does in her house.

I saw her on the news and she really looked sorry. I believe she loves her kid, just went overboard. Another reason why any violence is NEVER the answer.

I think the course of action was sufficient. The parenting courses and anger management are great. I just hope they follow up and make sure she is attending them and has completed them. We have all lost our cool as parents, maybe not to the point of hosing our children down.

How old is mother??? She looks like she's 21. Young mothers usually have a lot going on and they could get frustrated easily. Now hosing her down was inappropriate, but I don't think she should be crucified.

Gab, you can't prosecute someone for actions you *think* they are taking behind closed doors.

I'm mixed. I mean, I can totally see the tipping point having a son who will push boundaries and limits to the n'th degree. When this first story came out, I could see where she just lost it and in a moment lost her ability to maintain rationality and acted out. Sure, as parents we are supposed to be the "adult" but, I think just about every parent out there has found them doing something immature and inappropriate in response to an outburst by their child. That reaction by the parent more often than not doesn't result in an abusive act - heck, I've threatened to throw a tantrum in the middle of the store and start screaming my head off like my kid to show him how embarrassing his behavior was - and I almost did it. I not going to judge this woman's overall parenting skills. She lost it, she acted inappropriately, she's facing the consequences for her actions. Nuff said.

I think they should have took her over there and sprayed her with the hose in addition to her sentence! And 1 year probation isn't really enough imo, I mean this is one incident where she was caught on film but who knows what she does behind closed doors. I hope at the very least social services will check up on her from time to time.
