Following years of anthropological studies, Lego learned the differences in how boys and girls play and set out to create playsets that would engage girls in ways they could appreciate. Lego Friends, introduced in 2012, was the company's first foray into girl-specific play. Among the differences are six new colors (think pastels) and 29 minidolls that look more lifelike than the traditional minifigs. The toy line includes five main characters, each with a backstory and a "set" that she can play in, including a salon, a horse academy, and a veterinary clinic.
