Coffee Won't Cause Miscarriage

Coffee Won't Cause Miscarriages

Have your cup of joe and don't worry about junior. Kate Hudson is one celeb mama who indulges in her cup o' caffeine.

A recent study showed that pregnant women who drink caffeine in moderation are not more at risk for a miscarriage. But since less than two cups of coffee were consumed on a daily basis, it's questionable whether drinking more could have an adverse effect.

Dr. David A. Savitz of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City who conducted the study said past research had similar results. To finish the post,

A Reuters article said:

Most women in the study who drank coffee or other caffeinated beverages consumed about 350 milligrams of caffeine daily before they became pregnant and in very early pregnancy, equivalent to 1.7 7-ounce cups of brewed coffee a day. At the time of the interview, their average caffeine intake had fallen to 200 milligrams.

Savitz and his team followed 2,407 pregnant women and 258 miscarried.

oh and no matter what you drink when you are pregnant, nothing gets rid of that tired feeling. you are exhausted with or without caffeine.

i'd have a cup or two a WEEK but i mostly tried to avoid it. i wasn't ever a coffee person anyways. i only started drinking coffee after i had to give up energy drinks. energy drinks are really bad when you are pregnant and even afterwards if you nurse.

I stopped drinking caffeine almost entirely during my pregnancy but I was very careful with a lot of things - it was my first pregnancy and I think I was just extra careful since I didn't really know and wanted to be so safe. It was hard but I survived! I just ordered decaf mochas and I couldn't really tell the difference in taste. It did take a while for my body to adjust to the lack of caffeine though - even one coffee or one soda makes a difference! But I was happy to do it for the safety of my baby. However, it's nice to know that when I have another one, I'll be able to still have a cup of coffee in the morning since that's all I ever drink anyway! Yeah!

before pregnancy i was a 2 - 3 cup a day person. I've cut down to 1 half-caff per day, and decaf the rest with lots of water to wash it down. I want to be careful but I need that little half-caff to get me going!

I suffer terrible migraine headaches when I'm not pregnant, but HORRIFIC ones when I am. Since there are no real medications I trust to take, my OB suggested I not cut out the caffeine, but actually have some a day. It has worked! I have had a few migraines while pregnant, but nothing like I used to when I was caffeine-free.

With my first I didn't have any caffeine but with my second I was hooked and couldn't give it up. He was perfectly healthy and normal when he was born, no adverse affects at all.

I don't care for coffee, but I switched my ice tea to decaf when I was pregnant just to be cautious. My friend's mom told her that she had two drinks and a pack of cigarettes the day she was born. Things were different in the 1970's!

Good to know. My mom drank coffee when I was in utero and it was fine, but since then I always heard it was bad. Even tho I don't plan to have kids anytime soon, I was already dreading the withdrawal. :) So good news.

I drank coffee during my second pregnancy. During the first, I had read it was bad. My doctor told me that a cup or two a day weren't anything to worry about, but I wanted to cover all the bases so I didn't drink any. During the second, my midwife told me that a cup or two a day weren't anything to worry about, and that was good enough for me. :P

I totally avoided any caffeine when i was pregnant. I wasnt told not to drink it...but i had heard it wasnt really good to drink too much. So i just didnt drink it. I found a great raspberry flavored pregnancy tea that i was addicted to. Wish i could remember what it was called...that stuff was delish!! When it comes to my babies...i didnt take any chances. My pregnancy was "high-risk" i took it easy. :D

Not coffee really. Can't stand it since I've been pregnant. I drink tea daily though. Sometimes two cups a day.

My mom used to be a delivery room nurse... There was a woman who gave birth to a baby hooked on caffeine, and was having bad withdrawal symptoms. When the dr. asked how much coffee she drank a day, she responded with 2-3 POTS (yes, POTS) a DAY. Idiot.

I was never told to avoid it anyway, just to be reasonable about it.
